"sustainable"

"green"

"eco-friendly"

I'm all for being "environmentally conscious" (oh no, there's another one!), but these phrases are so overused in the media that I now cringe when I hear them.

I'm sure it's been mentioned already, but one verbal tic that gets my goat is, starting a sentence with "I mean" -- for no apparent reason.

And I hate it when people say "Yeah-No!" to express agreement (or whatever they're saying with that nonsense phrase).

Josh reminded me of one phrase that I heard a few times from one source, and I just hope it doesn't become popular, because it, like so much of San Francisco and Berkeley, is just soooooo insufferably smug:

Describing an arts organization as being part of ...... (and I dislike it so much that I'm going to cover it with spoiler text)..... the cultural eco-system.

Frequently at IMDB forums, I see posts with subject lines that begin with: "Am I the Only One...?" like am I the only who hates this movie or am I the only one who thinks Twilight is deeply profound.

Yes, you're the only one in the whole world who feels the way you do about this movie or that movie. How special you are.

I don't really hear it in life, but on the internet the phrase "I can't" (or "I can't even"), used by itself in response to something stupid or horrible. As in "I can't deal with this right now," except I guess that sentence is too long and complicated to type out in full.

I can't. I just can't.

"Let's have a convo."

WTF is a convo? Do you mean condo? Do you want to sell me a condo?

Yes, I know it means conversation. I hate it. It's word murder. big grin

Referring to an upcoming TV show episode as "All New!" is kinda silly. Some things can be partially new. TV show episodes are either new or not new. If it's new, of course it's all new! Incidentally, this also applies to Gnu and All Gnu!

"Let's have a convo."

Sounds Australian. Like "I'm due to get my compo this arvo".

Kids' buzz words where the previous sense is changed: "random", "sick", "troll", "noob". They probably will go away.
