Doing the transfer work to my computer gives me the luxury to jump around to cues from different discs for my first sampling. After starting with the Overture through Prelude on Disc 1, I'm now checking some of the alternates and the original "Entr'acte" is fascinating to hear for the first time. These alternates are the reason why a release like this was necessary for so long!

Agreed. I like track 17 from disc 5. It's the Star of Bethlehem music without the chorus. I find I like this better and have replaced the track from disc 1 on my burned CDR and computer playlist.

For those who can actually manage to remove their discs from the trays, could you give us some idea of the improvement in sound quality, particularly of the original score? Rhino seemed to have done a pretty good job; I'm just wondering what pixie dust FSM might have sprinkled on them old, old tapes.

Not sure what pixie dust FSM used, but the crystal clarity of the FSM BEN-HUR original tracks is, to my ears, head and shoulders above the Rhino set. It's a revelation.

I absolutely agree - I also prefer the FSM sequencing.
Question for others who also received Ben Hur: When I put disc one in my Bluray player, which is my usual way of listening to CDs, it skips the first couple notes of track one. (All my previous CDs have played fine.) On my computer, track one plays correctly, but it *does* start *right away* with no absolutely no blank space.
Has anyone else had any weirdness with disc one track one? Just wondering in case my disc is defective.
I find that frequently happens when I play a CD through a Blu-ray player and stereo system. I'm sure it's absolutely nothing to do with the CD itself. When it does that I just press the skip back button so that it plays from the beginning.
