THE LEFTOVERS is OK, but for a far better series about slightly the same concept, I recommend LES REVENANTS from a couple of years ago, which will finally return for a second season next year.

Just checked out MASTERS OF HORROR s.1 (were there more than one season?)

The second season was on network TV rather than cable, and changed the name to FEAR ITSELF. Predictably it became a tamer show, but had a few good episodes, particularly "Eater" by Stuart Gordon.

Has the British LIFE ON MARS been mentioned yet? (It's not about Mars, it's about a cop who goes back in time. Maybe.) High recommendation. There's also an American remake that was less effective.

Yeah, I know LIFE ON MARS. However, it seems to be a pretty straightforward cop drama. The paranormal time jump thing is very much in the background. As far as I know, anyway.

Yes, it's primarily a cop show, concerned with a culture clash between a modern policeman and the attitudes of cops in the 1970's. But it gets very Twilight Zone-ish, as the main character doesn't know if he's in reality or not - he might be in a coma. Weird things happen that suggest the latter. It's somewhat similar to the American show AWAKE, where a cop goes back and forth between two alternate realities, or is he? That's an excellent show too, if you don't mind the fantasy aspects being more subtle.

How about the Canadian sci-fi show LEXX?

LEXX falls into the 'pointy ear' sci fi thing that I'm not too keen on, I'm afraid. But thanks for the information on LIFE ON MARS. Maybe it's closer to CHARLIE JADE that way? (also a nice show, but very complex and ambitious).

I've added two shows to the list -- 12 MONKEYS (which I haven't started yet) and ASCENSION.

ASCENSION was a six-part mini-series on SyFy this Christmas, and I had high hopes for it, reading about the premise. Well, rarely have I seen a premise and story with more plot holes! Geez, what the hell were they thinking? Spending so many resources in terms of special effects and costly production values for something that is so sloppily written?

HELIX is back on that air again too, this time they've moved the plot to an island. Not quite as appealing as an Arctic research station, IMO, and I dread the LOST-like flashforwards they're doing, but we'll see how it plays out.

ASCENSION was made by 'SYFY' so it could have been much, much worse. I saw the first episode of 12 Monkeys and it was pretty decent, some interesting ideas & much better than what I was expecting. 'SYFY' does seem to be trying to make better shows & movies (I read an interview in Entertainment Weekly recently & they are aware of their reputation as a joke of a network).

Yeah, I've seen the first three eps of 12 MONKEYS now. It's pretty good, far better written than ASCENSION -- which is ironic, seeing as time travel stories are the most difficult to get right.

Not yet. Two things that turn me off somewhat -- the satire bit and the 'anthology' bit. I prefer shows with story arcs (otherwise, I'll just watch a film instead). But I'll probably get to it.

Start by skipping the first ep and jumping to the last one.
That way you will see the best episode and miss the worst

After 2 episodes of the new Helix season, we just gave up. It wasn't the change in location as much as the writing just became ridiculous...well...even moreso than the last half of season 1. The first season got pretty loopy but overall was entertaining, so am wondering what the hell happened to the show ? The mysterious island, the flash forwards thing, the absolutely silly cult thing with Brother Whateverhisnameis, all of added up to awkward and cheesy. Such a disappointment after a fun first season.

I kinda agree. Seems like they're trying to much to be LOST (and everyone knows how that turned out in the end). But I'll stick with it, just in case.

I've added BETTER CALL SAUL to the list (in the non-paranormal section), as well as GOTHAM which I had forgotten earlier. It's difficult to know whether to put this in the paranormal or non-paranormal category, but for now it's in the latter.

I've added THE LAST MAN ON EARTH to the list. I'm not generally a fan of mixing comedy with sci fi, but after watching the first two episodes, this seems kinda neat.

Poltergeist: The Legacy wasn't half bad, even if it did have a damned cheek for associating itself with that movie....

And featured Robey, the great one-name actress I had never seen before and have not seen since.

Thor, I reviewed the past few pages here but I cannot see if you have watched "Sleepy Hollow" yet or not. Its a fun ride of a show with a good cast and the 2 leads play off of each other real well.

Sleepy Hollow is a fun show to watch. Good news it's been picked up for a third season.

That's true. I haven't checked out that yet. I like the Burton film, but from what I saw of the trailers of the tv show, it seemed rather watered-out and catering to teens?!? In any case, I will certainly check that out now that you've alerted me to it again.

The creep factor rises and falls and rises again in the Canadian tv series A HAUNTING (2005-2015):

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0484243/

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000SNUNRE/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=

The series is a docudrama with narration and reenactments telling true-life stories of encounters with ghosts, the paranormal, etc. I only watched the first two seasons. Some episodes didn't cut it, but most were extremely well done.

Surprised not to see the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY films listed in your initial post. I rate them highly. Minimalism and suggestion are always more potent than depiction, but there is some depiction, too.
