Even as a fan of Arcade Fire, I didn't think their score for Her was that much of a standout. The Social Network - I get that. It stands out, even apart from the film (my opinion!). But this? Oh well. I'll actually disagree with you, Shaun. I thought the score for HER was excellent and really elevated the movie in a few key places. I don't think it will / should win, and I cannot imagine that many others here will defend it, but if it were available to buy, I'd certainly buy it. I loved the movie too, though, so maybe I'm doing the thing that Elmer Bernstein described where I'm really remembering the film and the film experience: The association more than the music itself. I like the nominees… I'm glad that Zimmer didn't get nominated: 12 YEARS really isn't a good score. Also, I sort of don't think THE BOOK THIEF should be in there, actually. Much as I love John Williams, I don't like the idea that he gets a nomination just for getting out of bed. The score is pleasant and I like the album, but I'm not sure it really it deserves it, you know? No guess on who will win, but my gut feeling is that it's between Desplat and Newman.

Hoping for Price or Newman. And I'm tired of the Desplat-nominations.

Maybe I'll need to see it again, but other than versions of their song "Supersymmetry" in one or two places (maybe two?), it seemed very much like "tones." What I noticed, at least.

But I'm really more than glad GRAVITY got a nominee since it's fantastic. For sure it won't win since Hollywood likes conservative music only. Since when? "The Social Network"? "Slumdog Millionaire"? "Babel"? These are "conservative" scores? Absolutely. It would be much more surprising if a "conservative" score got chosen again.

So Alex Ebert isn't nominated for 'All is Lost'? Strange as he snagged the Golden Globe for it. Anyhoo, I really like the 'Gravity' score and hope it wins. I have yet to check out 'The Book Thief', though I am quite sure I would like it very much when I do.
