So I'm just starting to explore Rota. I have Quartet's La Dolce Vita release and am loving it. Also really like his Romeo and Juliet score. Where do I go from here? Recommendations? Among the Fellinis, I happen to love "Juliet of the Spirits" (which is sometimes pretty out there), "8½," "Amarcord," and the more conventional but beautiful "La Strada." In the US, his most famous scores are certainly the first two "Godfather" scores, and they're great. In a more classical style, there's "Rocco and his Brothers" and "The Leopard" (Ricardo Muti conducted a CD with excerpts from these and the Godfather films that's very worth checking out). Another vote here for Amarcord, plus I can honestly say I never heard a Rota score I didn’t like. Not that I seek them out much, to my dishonour! I heard Hurricane on LP a couple of times and really enjoyed it, and I watched La Strada this afternoon and the main theme was used to great effect.
