Awesome ad. From everything I've ever read, I could never be sure if this played as a "roadshow". Thanks for the news, Doug.

I believe that it was the New Beverly in L.A. at which I saw the European road show version a bunch of years ago. This was before the 1995 restoration and director's cut finally happened.

It was a print that was used in England and, as they discovered when the watched it prior to the audience showing, had the missing scenes but was cut by the British censors for language in particular (with what may have been dull garden sheers, but I digress).

But one interesting feature is that it did have an intermission card. However there was no overture, no intermission or exit music, and no entr'acte. Just the word Intermission emblazoned across the screen and a fade to black.

Bo Hopkins was there along with Matthew Peckinpah and afterwords Bo said his final line from the film, which the censors had removed from the print, to riotous applause.

I saw the UK Roadshow version of this movie on a somewhat larger screen, and with a deeper curvature, than it was probably designed for being a 35mm blow up to 70mm.

The ABC Bristol Road, Birmingham, Cinerama.

Very impressive though. I had to suppress the urge to shout "STOP" during the thunderous final shootout.

Later that year I caught it at a smart little 70mm house called the Camelot in Newquay, Cornwall.
