Time for my yearly gripe. I really would love to have these scores from the Dean Martin series released. Is there any record label working on this or even close to beginning a project?

Box Set "The Silencers", "Murderers' Row", "The Ambushers", and "The Wrecking Crew". I'm still hoping that 2014 will be the year one of the record labels will release this.

I don't want to put a damper on this thing just as the groundswell is building, but I recently saw THE WRECKING CREW on TCM, and my report isn't good. I love the genre, the period, and spy music, but for me, this is a terrible movie. I mean, there were beautiful women in it, but everything else was wrong. Everything about this film is either completely incompetent, or a once-serviceable appeal to little cultural fads that aren't just out, they anti-resonate now, they grate. In its day I'm sure THE WRECKING CREW was only bad, but now it's atrocious.
And the music was possibly the worst part. There's a title song ("The House of Seven Joys," recorded before the film's actual title was decided) that today would be considered ethnically insensitive, but musically it was okay so that's a wash. The rest of the score is by Hugo Montenegro, and I think it worked against the film at every turn. At no point did I think "I want that on CD."
I have the LP of THE SILENCERS (Elmer Bernstein), and while the two songs are significantly better, the score cues are not much of an improvement for me.
That said, to each his own.

I agree with your comments Zap. I like Dean Martin, but can't stand the Matt Helm films. I even got up and walked out of the theatre on one, think it was The Ambushers. I've seen parts of the other 3 on TV and turned the channel. I surprised they made 4 in the series, guess people went to see them. As you said, to each his own.

Well, I know there are probably those who don't care for this music but I do and would love to have them as a box set or 2 CD set or whatever. But since Intrada has re-released the music to MASTER OF THE WORLD / GOLIATH AND THE BARBARIANS, I can only say the same thing that has been said about this collection. Why?
Surely the Matt Helm CDs would be equally enjoyed as Goliath - and don't call me Shirley.
So come on Intrada, La La Land, Quartet, et.al. I want to revisit the groovy 60s and all that psychodelic spy music. Life's too short and for those who grew up in the 60s, life is shorter than before.
I don't care if the songs are politically incorrect. Since when did that stop this music board anyway?

I found a few of the episodes to the short-lived 1975 series to check out the music. Some excellent work from Immel and Fielding, as well as Richard Hazard's ("Scavenger's Paradise") excellent contribution (especially that car chase mid episode). Other sources suggest Parker and Shores contributed, as well as Stevens (aside from the theme music).
This would make a kick-ass 2 or 3CD set.
