Nice find indeed - to put it mildly. Thank you!! What a great supplement this would make for a SWIMMER dvd that should also include the original out-take footage.

Nice find indeed - to put it mildly. Thank you!! A FANTASTIC find! What a great supplement this would make for a SWIMMER dvd that should also include the original cast out-take footage.

Thanks Grecchus and Preston (5 posts !) wink

I downloaded this interview from that site :

http://www.universcine.com/bonus/plongee-en-musique-dans-un-film-culte

which is a site specialized in art movies and loaded with rare interviews from directors, actors or producers. They are mostly in french. This is for example the page where I spotted the Hamlisch interview :

http://www.universcine.com/bonus#ajax/page/18

By the way Preston, were you indeed production assistant on that wonderful movie ?!! I saw it for the first time on September 16th 1976...and never saw it again till two years ago, when it eventually got a theatrical release in France.

Preston
do you think that the outtakes from THE SWIMMER survive?

I have loved the movie since I saw it in college and fell in love with the music too -- so glad I mentioned to Mr Hamlisch when I met him how much I loved his score -

Especially the scene with Barbara Loden that had been reshoot with Janice Rule !

Thank you for posting this, Angelillo.

Incredibly insightful and reflective remarks by Hamlisch, even 43 years after he did the job. Not the usual "oh, we had such a blast" or "Burt was just the guy!" chatter, just spot on. And sadly, it shows again what a loss his passing has been.

I'll need to finally get the movie on DVD and/or Blu-Ray.

First things first: My apologies to one and all for redundancy. (I hate computers!) I'd clean up the mess, but once people start referring to it in the thread and start having fun with it -- Hi, Bruce! -- it seems churlish to try to remove it.
Sincerely,
Preston, the Luddite Cyberpunk

Yes, I was there, Fairfield County, Connecticut, summer of '66. If you search this site, you should be able to find several threads about THE SWIMMER over the years to which I have contributed many memories and, I hope, insights.

Yes! Thanks for posting that. Very insightful.

Looks like the Sony DVD is OOP, and is going for really high prices on Amazon. Ebay has substantially more reasonable prices if people are interested in seeing the movie.

So glad everybody is enjoying this interview !

Regarding the OOP dvd I just want to let you know WildSide has just released the DVD on Region 2 :

http://www.wildside.fr/video/fiche,swimmer-the-,2463

But the british release is still available at very affordable prices !

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B00008YNHD/ref=sr_1_1_olp?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1347996746&sr=1-1&condition=new

That's the edition I bought one year ago for about the same price ! The print is very nice and runs with the correct aspect ratio !

The Swimmer wasn't even on my radar, but I was in the mood to pick up an "older" score so I skimmed through the list of FSM CDs at SAE and this one caught my eye. It was in my shopping cart after the second or third sample. Really looking forward to it...

Indeed, one of a select few truly holy grail scores for me, and I have FSM to thank for most of them.

You've just bought a gem. I almost envy you for haven't listened to it yet. And i'm sure Holly also will be thrill with it because of its Bernstein sound! wink
