Time to bump this after the years, since still nothing has been happening or revealed by any of the labels. Hopefully this major score will receive decent release sooner or later unless that MCA crap is complicating it...
Any chance to shed some light why this hasn't been released yet?

I recall reading on a previous thread that MCA was blocking a complete release of Out of Africa because the existing album for them was consistently a good seller. I wonder if the same thing applies to Apollo 13. That, and a number of us have the widely circulated promo of the score which might put off some of the labels.
Pity, because it's a phenomenal score and I'd certainly buy a proper re-release.
Well, it's not really "missing" as there's a perfectly fine MCA release (with songs) as well as the score-only promo. But yeah, I'd take a good album version of this (score only) that contained the major highlights of the score. Superb end titles.
I'm sorry Thor, but what are you smoking? The MCA release is a dire mishmash of songs, score and dialogue that is fundamentally unlistenable.
The score-only promo is the best cohesive listening experience. The remaining cues (many unused) are mostly inconsequential.
Edit: Whoops...just responded to a three year old post!

Yeah talk about a total frack up! This maybe the worst soundtrack release in the history of soundtracks! Lets not forget all the cross-fading as well. This release was like an "audio-sampler" of the movie. Neither a true soundtrack or a song collection.

Yeah, I agree that a score-only release would be desirable -- rearranged for listening, of course, I'm not interested in complete & chronological releases.
But the MCA album -- except for the dialogue -- ain't that bad. Several great score tracks on it, and some nice songs too.
My reaction in this thread three years ago was mostly to do with the fact that the topic starter declared it as a MISSING soundtrack -- which it of course isn't.
The "promo" is still not complete....but I would love a complete legit release of this.
The promo is the best representation of the score. The complete score is one of those cases where all those repetitive shorter cues actually hurt the listening experience.
Just wish there was some news on this. Is it being worked on? Is it being blocked? I'm getting closer to buying the promo/b**t but I really would prefer getting a proper release. Its a great score and the lack of a proper release leaves a large hole in Horner's catalogue.

My email address in my profile. Drop me a line with "Apollo 13" as the subject line and let me know who you, please.

That's putting it kindly. The cross-fades are designed to prevent us from having a score-only experience. The starts and ends of the cues are chopped off and ruined.

It is a fine CD for the general audience, but yes the annoying cross-fades pretty much leave it only a curiosity and an overall unsatisfying listening experience. I was able to get the promo at a decent price a few years back.
A legit version of the promo would be great..for me the promo CD is a perfect representation of the fine score
Got the promo for a lot of money some 15 years or more ago. It's great. I really miss the cue when they start preparations for the reentry on earth, which features those expectation-evoking-brass-chords, that music is still missing. Don't know if there is more good music missing.

The entire promo version is available on the DVD.
He has that already. I think he's talking about the music that accompanies the helicopters taking off toward the end and before the re-entry sequence.
Another vote for this one. Just re-watched the movie for the first time in years, and it is still powerful, nail-biting and emotional. Horner and Howard have had some fine collaborations; this was masterful.
