It would be great if the complete original score to King Kong were released, but it you like this score (& I love it, my favorite 70's Barry), then you really want the album version as well. I think I'm right in saying that it has some cues just recorded for the album, I'm sure, Kong Hits The Big Apple is different in the movie. Oh to have both! And if this is possable, then I think I'm right in saying that Morricone's, Orca Killer Whale is also possible, as I think it's owned by the same people.

Thanks for these posts Lukas. They really provide additional insight into the wonderful world of film scores. They are also a most helpful 'buyers guide'. Westworld is a strange, innovative, mostly electronic score by Fred Karlin, some of it recorded at his home studio (unheard of in 1973) Actually, French composer François de Roubaix (1939-1975) was already at it well before 1973 - he did a large portion of his work from his home studio and was very adept at combining acoustic and 'electronic' sounds as can be heard in scores such as DERNIER DOMICILE CONNU, LES LÊVRES ROUGES and LA SCOUMOUNE among others. Unfortunately, de Roubaix isn't very well known in the U.S. nor was his truly singular AND ORIGINAL musical voice (and very innovative recording techniques). Edit: I'm making my list and checking it twice.

I held out on King Kong for awhile, then saw that it was only $5 - ORDERED! Do you mean to tell me this damned thing is selling for five bucks now?

Does it means that someone (FSM?!) will make complete 2CD version?! I don't see why it would need to be 2CD, as 1CD is plenty big enough for the complete score, but I do *hope* this is what it means. Actually - and I'm embarrassed to admit this as I studied the score in that film inside out a few years ago, but I may have under-estimated the amount of extra music in the film. I re-played the first half of the film last night (couldn't stay up to watch all the way through) and it's richer in additional music than even I remembered. I still think the score as in the film doesn't need more than one CD, but if there are alternate versions, unused cues and both film versions and album versions to be presented (like the arrival on the island), I suppose it *could* push over to two. Anyway, time will tell.
