Sounds to me like someone needs to get more in touch with their emotions! If you listen to hours of action music without it affecting you in any way I suspect that you are a robot in disguise.

Where did I say that it doesn't affect me? I said that it doesn't force my foot down onto the pedal!

Then you shouldn't be on the road! I've listened to hours of action music in the car and it never leads me to pressing harder on the gas pedal. You are responsible for piloting a 2 ton machine where any type of reckless behavior could cost someone's life. Sorry to say but that's incredibly irresponsible!

"Hard To Starboard" from Titanic

This was one of the cues responsible for my addiction to film music. Hint of the love theme, telephone like panic as they call to the bridge, the horns, the strings, the sounds of the watertight doors, the ambient shock in the aftermath with the strings giving us the groans of the doomed ship. One of the few times I love the "Mickey Mousing". This track still gives me chills.

Absolutely, sir. I think the film (and score)'s popularity has diminished the effect and vocal support of this score and film's impact for some reason...but I agree that this track symbolizes the score's most aggressive and exciting thrills and aspects.

It has its share of thrilling moments, but to the people who love "Hard To Starboard" so much, have you heard "Al Bathra" from Courage Under Fire? It's like a cheap knockoff of that!

To Mike Skerritt- just curious i might have missed it in other threads , you have a nice picture of Georges The great, do you love his music?

First time I've heard that; wow, temp track? He definitely took those ideas further in "Hard To Starboard" IMO, but the similarities are very apparent.

I think ALIENS is one of the most overrated scores out there, with maybe 6 minutes of good action and the rest atmosphere 'adapted' from Penderecki and Goldsmith. There, I said it!!

I also think that the cue for the ambush in CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER is utterly mind-blasting--it conveys this sense of chaos, mayhem and TERROR that one would probably feel in such a situation. He knocked it out of the park with that cue.

Twenty-nine posts and no-one has mentioned 'Ride of the Firemares' from 'Krull' - shocking!

Jim Ware,

I don't consider that an action cue. I like it, but I wouldn't put it on such a list.

Thought I'd throw this one out since he's not really known for them.

Well for me it was the action that Horner wrote that made him my favourite composer!

I disagree that "Riding The Fire Mares" is not an action track - it is absolutely an action track with massive adventure epicness thrown in!!
I do tend to agree about ALIENS - it can be hit and miss for me depending on how I am feeling - I have not played it in a while but do occassionally pick out those big action tracks which are some of his very best!

My favourite action tracks:

BATTLE IN THE MUTARA NEBULA
RIPLEY'S RESCUE
RIDING THE FIRE MARES
ESCAPE FROM THE TAVERN
STEALING THE ENTERPRISE
THE FLYING CIRCUSS
THE TRAIN
WAR
ALL SYSTEMS GO - THE LAUNCH
THE CHASE
FREIGHT TRAIN

to name a few!!!

Another thing for Ambush from CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER... as the cue comes to it's close there is this triumphant burst as Jack Ryan (Harrison Ford) escapes this terrifying event. Though Jack is still in danger, the music is so heroic and patriotic that you cannot help feeling it's power. To this day (18 years later) I still get chills. A brilliant scene in every respect.

I agree--and it is the most EXHAUSTED-sounding (at the end) of triumphant music, if you get my meaning.

Glad someone threw The Train in there. I've been hooked on Legend of Zorro for several weeks now.

I was thinking the same thing!
The first two that come to mind are:

Riding the Fire Mares
The Chase(From Cocoon, of course!)

Some not mentioned tracks :

Escape from "The Four Feathers"
Coast Guard Rescue from "Perfect Storm"
Achilles leads the Myrmidons and The Trojans Attack from "Troy"
Army Invades Town and Faraday's Ride from "The Magnificent Seven" (if you don't bear in mind Simon Franglen's contribution)
