Steven Allen Fox on facebook: SARA ANDON TO PERFORM AT THE VARÈSE SARABANDE 35th ANNIVERSARY GALA! The announcements keep coming and we are absolutely over the moon about this one! Renowned flute virtuoso Sara Andon will be a featured soloist at the Varèse Sarabande 35th Anniversary Concert Gala with the Golden State Pops Orchestra! Sara Andon is one of the busiest musicians in Los Angeles - dividing her time between the recording studio with composers like Marco Beltrami, Alex Heffes and Rolfe Kent, and full slate of live concerts. As a soloist and chamber musician, Ms. Andon has performed throughout the United States, Italy, France, England, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Greece and China including performances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Hall (NYC), St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, CBS Sunday Morning, Universal Amphitheater, Hollywood Bowl and Walt Disney Hall in L.A. She has recently returned from a historic concert with the Macau Orchestra and we are so lucky and to have her in Los Angeles and with us for our anniversary gala. Ms. Andon will perform the American premiere of Georges Delerue's Academy Award-winning theme from A Little Romance. Don't miss Sara Andon performing with the GSPO on May 11, 2013 as part of Varèse Sarabande's historic concert gala!

If I don't get out there I'll have a spare ticket to give away if anyone wants it. It's like 2 or 3rd row on the right. Actually it's quite close to Morricone!

JOHN POWELL Since HOW TO TRAIN MY DRAGON was a Varese release you can guess my choice for him that night. There was mentioned weekly announcements and there are still 9 weeks to go. So I am impressed and curious to see how long it will take before this concert sells out. OMG!!! That is like a dream of mine to hear Mr. Powell conduct that score live!! I think I have to go!

Robert Townson's newest announcement is not only remarkably true but has clues to 3 new items being played that night: Hollywood Bowl in front of over 10,000 people. Conducting their own music that night was a group of composers that today seems utterly beyond belief that they were ever assembled for a single concert. It happened once and was never repeated. It could never have been. Bernard Herrmann, Alfred Newman, Alex North, Miklós Rózsa, Elmer Bernstein, Dimitri Tiomkin, Henry Mancini, David Raksin, John Green and Nelson Riddle. Andy Williams and Mahalia Jackson sang, with Jack Benny as host. I'm no Jack Benny, but four of the above composers will be represented at the Varèse Sarabande 35th Anniversary Concert Gala with the Golden State Pops Orchestra on May 11. That, and we'll add a few... music by Jerry Goldsmith, Georges Delerue, Joel McNeely, John Debney, Michael Giacchino, John Powell. And then some more. And more. And more still. None of us can go back in time to 1963 to attend the Bowl that magical September night. Do you have your ticket for May 11? Better hurry.[endqoute] http://www.gspo.com/season.php So far onlly North and SPARTACUS have been announced so it's 3 of the other composers. and I don't believe there has been a Nelson Riddle or John Green score released on Varese, so we can eliminate them. And I pretty much would be happy with anything from the composers that are left, especially because some cliche items (let's say Raksin's LAURA which is always played) have also never been released on Varese so it will be very different than is usually heard. As usual these announcements are getting me way too excited, gotta watch my blood pressure.
