WOW!!!

PASS!!!!!

How's the life-size Goldsmith cardboard cutout doing? Just try and resist the temptation to cut out a hole through the crotch, okay? I know, I know - you want to do it more than anything, but if you ever become sane in the future you'll most likely want to return it to the store, and that just wont be possible if you've mutilated it and given it some lovin.

Sigh. Yet another to add to the wish list. Though hopefully this (and In Country) will be able to come off that list in a month or so if cash is a bit less tight. Damn this recession! frown

Horner's ability to blend classical symphonic traditions with modern electronics

Nicely put, Wedge! Under the circumstances I can forgive you for not mentioning that great Irish symphonist, Shostak O'Vich.

Because there are too many things that I'd like to buy that are ahead of this, I doubt it'll ever grace my doormat, but to be fair I really like both the score and the film; in fact, it's my favourite Horner score and does get a regular airing in its original release. I'd certainly urge anyone teetering on the edge of getting this to spend the money. It's probably a worthier buy than most.

What a great surprise! This is hands down my favorite Horner score, and the addition of the material omitted from the original one-disc release, including the film version of the opening sequence, is really exciting. I ordered this the minute I saw it, and can't wait to listen to the whole score finally. Another home run from Intrada. And how nice are they to be re-releasing the two-disc INCHON? Got mine the first time around, but this is a knock-out vintage Goldsmith butt-kicker of a score and I highly recommend it to any and all who may have missed it. 3 thumbs up!

Just awoken to this wonderful news! another harr-i-son? FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORD title! wink

And scored by Horner! With Aliens on second sample! And 'Sneakers' on third sample! Again 'Sneakers' and 'Bishop's Countdown' on fourth sample! Early 'Ransom' on the 5th sample! And so on!!! All my favorites in one score! I love it.

Somebody, if you see Josh drive by, honk!!!!!!!!!

P.S. so ordered big grin

Woodroom/Finale is a cue I've wanted since I saw the film in the theater. Fracking awesome!

long time no hear... I only remember the terrific main theme (or main cue) and the tension scene with the printers... and the action ambush cue.

favourite Horner score? really? what did I miss, please?

It's one of those decent Horner scores that's become harder to enjoy because he pillaged large sections of it just a year later with Apollo 13. The "Main Title" from Apollo 13 was clearly temped with the MT of Clear And Present Danger, and the second half of Clear And Present Danger's MT is used completely wholesale in "Re-Entry & Splashdown," which features other sections from the score as well (like the "Operation Reciprocity" theme, one of the highlights of the Clear And Present Danger score).

Also, this is one of his scores where he does his half-orchestral, half-shits-out-some-shakuhachi-and-dad's-keyboard thing, so don't expect a lot of hidden treasures amongst the unreleased bits.

That said, if you don't have the score (under this title), it's well worth owning for the original album cues plus the addition of the excellent "Woodroom" track.

This IS one of my favorite Horner scores, mostly because it is a straightforward, patriotic action piece. No chants or weird stuff, just honest to goodness action and suspense. It is a Greatest Hits Package, but that never bothered me. I mean, the finale is in the same vein as his climax to Aliens, but it's different enough for me to really dig it.

Also, Operation Reciprocity is such a fantastically emotional cue, it's been my favorite of his since I got the original CD. Such a shame it's wasted on a shot of helicopters.

I've always loved the first half of the cue, but then the second half is a huge snooze.

Yeah, I usually skip to the next track at that point....

You missed me saying, "I really don't like most of Horner's film scores." This one rises to the top (for me) primarily based on the exceptionally effective (IMO) scoring of the opening sequence. Yes, I do hear pieces and parts of other stuff in the other cues, but since I don't spend much time listening to Horner otherwise, that's not a big concern. I am hoping to discover a few more interesting cues among the additional ones included in this release.

I agree about the main theme motif, I think it is a well rounded piece of music which fits the movie.

The rest of the clips sound OK, I don't know whether I am sold on this or not... for the time being, there are lots of other scores to purchase.

While it may not be Horner's best score, it was one of the first of his that I heard (together with Apollo 13, Legends of the Fall and Braveheart) when I started listening to film scores in the mid 90's, so out of nostalgic reasons this is a must buy for me!
