Does this mean that these titles are not selling and instead of putting them on the OOP block they are trying to get some of their investment back before they put them on the OOP block? I guess I would love to see the releases go on sale more.

I was surprised to see this sale, since it's largely unprecedented for Intrada. I think one of the reasons is that if people start to expect that their releases will go on sale in a few months, they'll hold off and orders will suffer. (Since Intrada announces when a disc is about to sell out of go out of print, there's not a lot of risk to waiting.)

So I don't know if this is going to become a regular thing, but I sort of doubt it. Then again, what do I know?

$11.99 for the 2 CD set MONEYCHANGERS is a no brainer. Good thing I held off from buying it.

Me too. Also nabbed King Kong Lives - Scott is usually amazing.

I don't wait for sales, but I picked up one, maybe two I wouldn't have gotten otherwise. Sometimes the price has to be just right.

This sudden rise in international shipping costs can become such a deterrent in making soundtrack purchases. More than three times what it would cost to ship the same CD's in the states. Europe $25.50 for 6 CD's vs. $8.25 for the lucky U.S. folks. I wish Intrada would work something out for international customers and do something about that. The same thing goes for SAE.

Anyway I picked up some titles including KING KONG and Mancini's MONEYCHANGERS. Under normal pricing I would look somewhere else.

How could they 'work something out'? This is what it costs to ship the packages overseas. They're only charging enough to cover the cost of postage and packing supplies. You can't really cut a deal with the USPS and get a better rate.

It's worth pointing out that THE MONEYCHANGERS is a 2-CD set, packed with well over TWO HOURS of classic Mancini! It's a steal at this price.

And I think SLEUTH is one of Addison's most enjoyable scores. Just listen to that fantastic "Overture," or the meltingly beautiful horn solo in "Epilogue" (courtesy the great John Burden).

Interesting choices---but you would know, birthday boy! ;-)

Yeah and that's the bottom line sadly. If I now want to order a CD from the US, I have to take in account I'm paying for an extra CD with how much shipping amounts to. And if customs intercepts it, I have to pay for another CD, so worst case scenario I'm getting one CD and am paying three times its price.

I now order almost exclusively via amazon/ebay, mostly from european sellers.

On the other hand, if some of these releases are not shiffting at $20, do Intrada just leave them on the shelf unsold for years?

Not an easy one to resolve.

This has worked out quite well for me personally, Ok the high postage gripes aside I decided to get the following

Black Sabbath
Five Days From Home
The Moneychangers
Stay Tuned
Wrongfully Accused

I was in two minds to buy Tale of the Despereaux, I will decide in the next day or two

First off, in most cases, they can't leave them unsold for years. In general, they have a release window negotiated upfront. (Sometimes, when they announce a title is going out of print, it's for that reason, though people here always assume it means the disc has a) sold well, or b) sold terribly.)

But leaving that out, as you say, it's not easily resolved. Ultimately, it's just a guess -- will they make more money (or lose less) in the long run selling off old stock even if it means their early sales take a hit because fans will wait for an assumed sale down the road? Tough question.

Thanks very much for the post. I would have missed out.

I ordered:
- Five days from hme
- Wrongfully accused
- King Kong lives

Too bad this sale came after I have already bought at full price:
- The mountain men (some wonderfull tracks as I had expected from Legrand)
- The moneychangers (good stuff)
- The jayhawkers (nothing new but still good)

Good also because I finally got round to check the two Les Baxter scores, and found that I can remove them from my wish list.

D.S.

I picked up THE MONEYCHANGERS - what a steal at 11.99 for a 2-disc set!

Same. Would love to get KING KONG LIVES, but the shipping is too much.

Same here. I completely stopped ordering from the US after long years doing so!

Okay, this sale finally prompted me to buy some scores I've been putting off purchasing for far too long. ;-)

I picked up Uncommon Valor (Yay, Sale!), The Black Hole, The Avengers, and Back To The Future. Though the last three were not on sale, I'm glad to finally add them into my collection. And I can't wait to listen to them!!

Keep up the great work Intrada!

Agreed.
Those ridiculous new US postal charges have also encouraged me to buy from the UK or Europe.
Hopefully, with lots of people being deterred from using their Int'l post service, it might make them re-think their rip-off policy!

Unfortunately, it's much more complicated than that, and it's a consequence of the politics of partisanship that pretty much dominates the US political system right now. I don't see it changing anytime soon.
