Sam Fuller! Henry King and Henry Hathaway: Both used Alfred Newman! Would love material from the films of all three of the aforementioned directors, but would also add to that a third Henry: Koster, and Jean Negulesco, both of whom did marvelous work for Fox. And perhaps another Preminger volume if at all possible... I think the idea of a "Director's Series" (for lack of a better term at the moment) is an absolutely terrific idea, and I look forward to seeing what'll be coming next. On topic, these CDs have scarcely left my player since arrival - the music is magnificent, the sound warm and welcoming, and it's a perfectly assembled package filled with the kind of material that I love so dearly.

Five scores on 2 CDs for the price of one? It's got to be the bargain of the year. Fallen Angel all by itself would be worth the $19.99. Yes it is - especially with rare Alice Faye vocal included - I alerted an online Alice Faye fan club of this previoudly unavailable release ! As an aside, could you possibly do an Alice Faye at Fox set? I loved to see that too. Bruce , would you consider an Alice Faye set including music and vocals from the many previously unreleased Faye films like TIN PAN ALLEY, HOLLYWOOD CAVALCADE, THE GANG'S ALL HERE & HELLO FRISCO HELLO ? There is a lot of great Alfred Newman material in her films . Can't be specific yet, but all this kind of stuff is in the discussion phase.

"Preminger at Fox" sidesteps that by being a collection of scores to films by a director. I'm wondering whether there any statements Preminger ever made about film music, apart of course from the "Laura Theme" incident.

Well, how can we forget the story that begins with Preminger, sitting in the control booth, and having heard for the first time his composer's main theme, getting on the P.A. system to announce, "Mr. Gold, you have just ruined my picture!"

It's down the line, but Nick and I are both very excited about the director series.

Director's Series is a great idea! I was always hoping for an eventual Alfred Newman box, but, after a conversation with Nick at one point, that seems unlikely, not even for a kind of subscription arrangement. But, with the Director's Series, more Newman scores could be released in that format. The more I see his work, the more I'm aware of Jean Negulesco as a stylist. Amazing, how that Auteur Theory, promulgated by, among others, French film critic Francois Truffaut, before he made his own films, still has resonance today.
