I VHS'd the movie off Showtime many years ago, thank heaven, and am now patiently waiting for the powers that be to get around to giving me a DVD upgrade...

I more or less assumed that the Fred vocal fragment of "Lover" wouldn't be on the cd, because it seemed to me that it was performed live on-set, as opposed to lip-synching to a pre-recorded track as in a musical film, and therefore the song wouldn't have been present on the tracks in Paramount's vault. Bruce can no doubt confirm this at some point.
Personally, I'm looking forward to all the bonus tracks, though unfortunately I'm not expecting that LP recording of the main theme (mentioned above in my first post) to be among them, since that was not done for the film OST.

Fred and Al had worked together with Gershwin back on Broadway in the Twenties, and in his autobiography, "Steps in Time," Astaire recalls fondly how much his old buddy Newman did to bolster his spirits and uplift his morale during the production of DADDY LONG LEGS -- a time when Fred's heart was breaking over the recent death of his beloved wife Phyllis.

Newman only got better in the last decade of his life/career. He was less prolific but his 60s scores were some of the best he ever wrote. Sure, this seems lighter than The Counterfeit Traitor and is the only 60s Newman score I'm completely unfamiliar with, but I'm SOLD.
Impressively, this is the last 60s Newman score previously unreleased in any form, with the sold exception of his excellent penultimate score, for the western Firecreek. I'm still surprised that FSM didn't get around to that (it's Warners) before they closed up shop, as Lukas was such a champion of Alfred Newman. Maybe tapes were problematic? I hope it's coming from someone! (As well as complete definitive versions for Nevada Smith and Airport...preferably with the album re-recordings included in good remasterings)

I'll be picking up this new Newman release very soon, along with Intrada's upcoming WHITE DAWN release.
BTW, Bruce is offering Newman's COUNTERFEIT TRAITOR for half price along with orders of PLEASURE.

Maybe 7-9 years ago (?) I remember Lukas asking:" Firecreek, any good?" I couldn't find it in the search engine for this board. Many people, including me, urged Lukas to issue it. Don't know why he didn't.
I too would love to see Bruce issue the original tracks to Nevada Smith and Airport along with the LP re-recordings. I'm surprised they both have not yet been done by now. I really like Alfred Newman's 1960s scores.

Definitely not this week. It will be at some point next week, though, still five weeks ahead, I think. I will say that the three releases that follow will all ship immediately, the day after orders arrive - it's the first time we've ever been ahead

It's sold about 750-ish so far, which is fine.
