Shoot. Well, it's on Spotify, at least.

Have we all become spoilt with these incredible releases over the years? I think possibly we have...

It seems that's what happened, yes.

Having said that, I enjoyed SALEM'S LOT a LOT and hope it had a LOT of SALEs (sorry... it's pun Friday).

Watched that TV two parter long time ago, and the music is nice, old fashioned blood and thunder vampire music.

Yes. We have been spoiled by the soundtrack labels down the years.
And yes, many many grails have come and gone. Only the labels know which ones were just as 'hot' as they were when they were wanted...and which ones weren't.
But all these riches shouldn't stop us from having an opinion, or calling something if it sounds off (that's certainly NOT the case with this CD though).
Fair enough if it's the condition of the tapes/source or whatever, but for me, constant cheerleading is just as annoying as constant moaning.

I'm stunned the release of this score didn't generate more discussion. Seems to me the pattern on this board is people go on and on about their holy grail releases, then when one gets released it's very often a week or so of 'soooo ordered!' type responses, then a brief discussion period post release, which often degenerates fast into gripes about seconds of music not included, or sequencing, mixing, or ANYthing that deviates from sheer perfection, then they're onto begging for the next release. There are exceptions of course like The Blue Box or Ben-Hur, which still generate lots of discussion & praise, but by and large there's a rather sizeable fickle element at play. Have we all become spoilt with these incredible releases over the years? I think possibly we have...

Anyway, I love this score and play it often - in fact I still mentally have to pinch myself that this got released at all, I really had it consigned to 'dream release only' status. The highest quality production across the board too from mastering to sleeve notes to packaging. The bluray is about to be released actually (at long last); I'm sure this will generate fresh interest in this magnificent score. A pity it's sold out, but I hope a reprint is on the cards if there's enough interest to warrant it.

I couldn't agree more. This score is just dripping with classic horror atmosphere, but with a genuinely creepy "modern" twist. The love theme is tragic and versatile. The sonics on the disc are magnificent too. With the blu ray coming out, I predict a lot of renewed interest.

There was no announcement it was going out of print. It's probably just out of stock. Well, hopefully.

Wouldnt Intrada indicate "out of stock" instead of "sold out"? Anyway, other stores seem to still have it stocked, so it's not completely unavailable, and there's the Warner cdrs/download. Just dont buy the Intrada version on Amazon where people are charging over $60.

Lest everyone assume that this "Salem's Lot" 2 CD set did not generate discussion, the thread containing the pre-release announcement for this fabulousity certainly did indeed get loving attention, including mine:

This release was one of my holy grails -- and even though I did not post in this specific thread I certainly bought it as fast as my fingers could type when it went up for sale. It sounds glorious, and I continue to be amazed by the set. The score seems like a heartfelt, grand summation of just about every horror music composer and scary music trope imaginable. With, of course, a generous dollop of Herrmann. I love it! A classic score.

I'm a little reluctant to dive into this, though I'm excited to eventually getting around to seeing the movie.
How does it work as a listening experience, given the extremely short tracks?

Kasey, I would suggest perhaps creating a playlist of the numerous sample tracks on the Intrada site -- then playing the entire list to get a taste of what the whole set is like as an experience. I found the experience very immersive -- but I can, of course, understand the concern about short cues,

For what it's worth, I don't find the short cues a distraction when I listen, and I often don't care for that sort of thing. I think the album works strikingly well when you're in a horror mood. I'll say it again, I just love the idea of turning the Dies Irae into an ostinato - that's clever and apt!

Thanks for the head's up, Last Child. Will get on this sooner rather than later.

Intriguing. Good news for those that missed out on the (superb) Intrada release:

I had my iPod on shuffle today and one of the tracks from this release came on. I thought to myself, "I really have to pull this out and listen to it again." I am really glad I bought it despite only seeing the move once. I'm trying to find the new Blu-ray edition but it appears to be pretty hard to find since being released this week.

I took it out and listened - it's really great. Sukman was the real deal.

I don't know what the Blu is about - no one has it - really ridiculous for a release that came out two days ago. My recommendation is getting it from WBshop. I just ordered it and IT and it'll be here in three days.

Sadly, the new reissue from Warner Archives comes pressed in cd-r (it doesn't appear in the description of most european sites from Amazon, but it does on Amazon.com).

Warner Archives is an on-demand enterprise. The movies are dvdr (with rare exceptions), so it's predictable that the music will be cdr. I mentioned the cdr format several times above.

But for clarity's sake the Warner Archive Blu-rays ARE pressed not BD-Rs.

I know. Just was complaining that a lot of sellers (at least, in Europe) don't specify that their editions are in cd-r, so some buyers can be deceived when they get them.

Cheers.
