There was a song throughout mcCabe and mrs miller too wasnt there?
Dunno if it was the title song too.
We're probably naming all the films leading up to the final one, even if we havent nailed the definitive one yet!!

I wouldn't count McCABE AND MRS MILLER...all the songs in it were taken from an existing Leonard Cohen album. There is no true "title" song.

How about THE LEGEND OF THE LONE RANGER (1982) with its title song by Merle Haggard?
That's 12 years after some of the other contenders mentioned like CHISUM and MONTE WALSH.

OK...not trying to come off like a wet blanket, 'cause I know you guys are just going for a cheap laugh.... smile
BUT. Probably everyone who is a John Barry fan has heard it (although they probably didn't see the movie and a good thing for them). It's a damn fine score with one of Barry's best "western" themes.

Who is this "everyone" of which you speak? I agree JOSEY WALES is one of the all-time great westerns, but I kind of remember a couple of pretty damn excellent ones that came after that:
UNFORGIVEN, DANCES WITH WOLVES, OPEN RANGE, TOMBSTONE.

Not a title song among them though.
