What truly distinguishes the two is the social morays of the time and place in which you live. As a general rule Americans are amongst the most notorious prudish people compared to most other industrialized nations.
And what is considered horrific in the conservative south would possibly be perfectly acceptable in more liberal parts of the country.
But it is even more complicated than that as, often, two people sitting right next to each other will fall on one side of the debate or the other. Pornography, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.

Good post, and it's something that I would like to have said myself (if I had my head on a little straighter that day). But I would not have been able to word it better than this.

The above makes me think of the new Showtime series "Masters of Sex" about the pioneering team of Masters and Johnson and the rather closed (i.e. uptight!) world in which they were struggling to do their research. It was a long and grueling battle for them, but we are the better for it.

Indeed we are, Ron II, in spite and despite all the expected criticisms they experienced in their trail-
blazing path.

Y'know, years ago we worked on Mad-ison Avenue at Young & Rubicam advertising agency and - ala
subsequent exposures into the equally deceptive arenas of Academia and Law - we were eventually
aghast at how each area had become a science unto themselves that had less to do with the popular
ideals usually attached to them than bottom-line top-of-the-dollar institutions.

As to that, what Advertising displayed - and it's only gotten more insidious since the mid-80s - is how
virtually EVERYTHING the media concocts has a subtle-as-an-A-bomb sexual come-hither to it that's
more pornographic in its immediate gratification simulation of whatever wears they're hawking as
anything the sex film meat factory - it's scarcely an 'industry' - unleashes.

TO ONLY GOOD MUSIC- It seems we often agree with our musical taste, but I can' t agree at all with your sexual taste. It's repression that can offer in the end the greatest sexual enjoyment of all. So the ones down south with a chuckle on their face might be the wiser ones, by a sought of contradiction within themselves. There so called outer prudishness may bring forth a great inner potency. But they won't tell anybody about it[ha-ha]

I was making a joke, but, clearly, around here you have to attach a smiley to ANYything meant ironically or sarcastically for people to take note.

Oh - wink - Never mind.

Clearly (as crystal) with the preponderance of infantile smart-ass sniping that ingloriously proliferates throughout the realm of FSM DISassembled, sometymes a smile would be advantageous.

But wee obsess - o, ne'er mind. big grin

Why izzit those omnipotent ones obviously without one always omnisciently telling others to get one?

Thanx for proving our point, peewee.

And unless you have anything else affirmative or thoughtful to offer, stay away (not that we're holdin' our breath assuming you will) ...

Wouldn't one say the old time striptease would be a good form of erotica not pornography. The mystery, the buildup.

I thought the striptease scene in MAN OF THE WEST-58 was one of the most erotic scenes in film history.

Before this thread goes into oblivion I would like to say this . Like many things in our existence it's all a state of mind, there is no one answer, One's turn on is another person's turn off.Like what they try to tell you what is art and what is exploitation, no opinion is written in stone. Maybe the only real answer is to accept that it is indeed there is no right answer on these things. Just different people's perspective of things they like or don't like.Things they will too often give answers based on bias thought. An example where there are millions. In high school years ago in some sex class. They had a bunch of people look at a close up of some hair on a body. They didn't tell the group before hand where the hair was, the group all answer there was nothing arousing about the pictures It turn out it was pubic hair on a woman. The second group was told beforehand the pictures they will be looking at is pubic hair on a woman, many of them wrote in arousal from the pictures. Ha- ha- the same hair the same pictures, it could have just as well been a hair on a 82 year old man's head.
