Yeah big tennis fan here. I play about 5 times a week. Tend to play more than i watch.
Saw a chunk of mens final - i think recovering and winning the 4th set exhausted fed and he just didnt have anything in the tank to fight back in the final set. As he served to win the 4th it also meant Djokavic serving first in the 5th and therefore going ahead each time on serve - its psychological when you are 32 and playing a younger more athletic man - if you notice Fed shots looked tired and he hit a few backhands in the net that he would normally have no problem with.

Good final though. Djokavic dug deep. And some of Federers shots were moments of genius few other players have got the subtlety to execute.

Yes, fantastic final yesterday. I was rooting for Federer (he's my kind of player and personality), and sorry to see him lose, but I hope he gets another shot before he retires. Especially because he's so close to being historical.

What an incredible play by both men it was, though. Normally, Federer would have won with all those winners, but Djokovic is just insane with all those returns.

Thanks for turning this into just another thread about hot babes in skimpy outfits. Why do we even bother?

Come on Ronald get a sense of humour! The serious tennis stuff is there too.
Nobody turned anything into anything.
The thread is still there and will continue to be there for anyone who wishes to discuss the professional strenghs and weaknesses of djokavic, federer, nadal, murray etc etc. Why get so sniffy about it mate?
Its just a bit of fun

Bill:

I do have a sense of humor and don't mind it when posters lose sight of the original intent of a discussion. I guess I was humorlessly reacting to what I felt was the writing on the wall -- we've all seen otherwise serious discussions morph into something entirely different, sometimes completely straying so far from the original intent that it's hard to get back on track. But you're right: I should have ignored all the cheesecake postings and come back here at the start of the U.S. Open.

Thanks, Bill. But it's funny how, less than 24 hours after a significant final, especially one with the drama of Federer/Djokovic, I've almost forgotten it. But that match will be discussed for years, especially if it leads to more wins by either of those gentlemen.

I see the Women's Australian Open Tennis has turned out to plan, with the top two seeds to play in the final. I'll be rooting for Caroline Wozniacki to win, I like watching her playwink

Also, that South African born British tennis player lost in the men's semi final earlier today.

That young Brit/South African/whatever? kid supports LFC, so there is good in him, I've sensed it.

Now that you mention that Kev, I seem to remember a while ago he refused sponsorship from The S** so kudos to him!

I found out last week when I read he tweeted something about LFC beating Citeh as capping off a perfect weekend for him and he signed off YNWA.

So hes a liverpool fan...and at the crunch.. after much promise....he got hammered. No parallel there??!! wink

By the way thomas i cant find any pix of maria sharapova in heels and short skirt holding trophy! Do you know where i might find one?!!

Incidentally the deciding set of the womens semi between halep and gerber was phenomenal thismorning - both players had two match points and coulda gone either way. Halep just clipped the lines with 4 killer shots in last few games.
You could barely separate them. So defo not a foregone conclusion.

The final - with the sound down - could be watchable!!

Well done to Liverpool supporter Caro Wozniacki winning the women's final. The 2 girls played their hearts out in a brilliant near 3 hour match!
