I have seen all 6(?) episodes so far, and I think it's very good, but maybe not quite The Stand quality. I would also have loved to see some well-known actors in some of the roles, for a start.
And I agree that we don't neccessarily need another season. I hope it won't go on forever, like LOST.

For me "Under the Dome" started very uneven and didn't get going until the Big Jim - Ollie power feud (and not to mention that terribly borefest of a bomb shelter hostage situation), now it seems the characters have fallen into place and Junior is less of a unstable plot twisting machine than he is just an unpredictable baddie.
The show is nowhere near as good as "The Stand", considering this is produced by Spielberg & King, I expected a ton more. "Under the Dome" at times plays like it is based on a children's book than it is on a King novel, with people rioting in one instance and in the next holding hands and dancing in the rain.
Disappointingly, the score by Snuffy Walden is bland and outdated and whatever hopes I had of him revisiting 'Stand' quality, have gone out of the window with the episodes I've seen so far. But as I said, for me the show does seem to improve, so who knows where it will lead and the music with it. Surprisingly, there is a sizable following and viewership, but I wonder if they can retain them after the dome gimmick runs out of steam (in so far it already hasn't by this season's end).
King is set to write the first episode of season 2, I am interested in how they will change the backstory of the dome itself to further the show.

I really like it but....
its really the same story as THE MIST. One, the group is trapped in a grocery store. the other they are trapped in a dome.
and, they both feature a religious fanatic!

“It’s definitely the hope that we will get to do many more than this [season],” Vaughan said. “Stephen King told us, ‘When I wrote the book, I imagined it to be like these people are trapped in this dome for years, not just weeks.’ So we’ll see, if viewers stick with us, and CBS wants us to come back, we’d love to do more.”
The producers explained that whether they’re adapting elements of the story directly, or taking license with the giant-sized novel, King remains very involved in the process, reading every script and watching every cut. The author will even write the Season 2 premiere.

they were pitching something to [King], and there was a pause. It was a big idea, something that wasn’t in the book,” explained Falvey, “and there was a big pause on the other end of the line, and he came back on the line and said, ‘I wish I had come up with that.’”
“We steal as much as we can from the book,” Vaughan said. “We use a lot from each chapter, and then some of it is wholly vented. I think by the end of this first season, we’ll already have probably gone further than Stephen King did in the book – so then that’s when we’ll have to start picking Stephen’s brain, to give us more ideas for things to do.”

I love the ending of the book. It’s a really dark, sort of nihilistic ending. We talked with [King] and said, look, if we have the show on for 10 years and we get to know these characters, we can’t do that ending. That ending only works in the book. We’ll have to do something a little bit different. That means we might even have to come up with different reasons for why the Dome is here, and so that’s all been with Stephen King’s blessings.
“It’s the same characters, and more importantly the same themes that we’re trying to say,” he continued. “I think we’re trying to say the same things Stephen King was trying to say about our country, and where we’re headed.”

So how come the book lasts just a couple of days? I think, anyway, I skimmed the last quater of the book (King could do with a really good editor). I suppose the series could improve on the book, I don't want to give too much away, but the explanation for the dome & its end is truly pathetic in the book.
The best Kings I've seen on the box is, Salem's Lot & The Langoliers.

Ron, the book has an ending. I think for this season, there won't be an ending. There will be some cliff hanger last episode for this season, and we'll start next season with all still under the dome without any knowledge of why they are there. Hopefully, it won't drag out for 3 seasons.
Same here, Joan. I started watching because I thought it would be a finite miniseries.

I have to agree. The score is rather generic. with few Snuffy trademarks. Would still check out a soundtrack release though.

I found this series to be pretty damned awful. It's poorly written with these stock characters acting like idiots and months worth of character arcs being crammed into weeks of story-time. Julie and Barbie's romance, the huge number of deaths, the stupidity of the townspeople, and the maddening habit of the characters saying "Chester's Mill" two dozen times per episode made this must miss TV. I mean, seriously, do you say the name of your town in every conversation. "I believe in the people of Chester's Mill," "What are you doing in Chester's Mill?," "I can't believe this happened in Chester's Mill."
Really, bloody terrible. I'll not be wasting any more time on this crap next season. Oy.

I love it!
One of the best King adaptions so far - and definitely one great new series.
And I welcome all the changes - since I read the book I can still be surprised by what is happening.

I was really enjoying it until Natalie Zea showed up - again!!!!!!!!
(she is also on JUSTIFIED & THE FOLLOWING frrevinsakes).
That character was totally unbelievable and seemed to serve as a way to get more action/violence into the show.
Am now reading the book to see how it SHOULD have played out
