I've updated the first post with season info, cancellations etc.

I've also added two shows to the list:

THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE, which was a pilot produced by Amazon last year, and which has been picked up for a series, maybe in 2015. It was pretty decent, although I was never a big fan of 'alternative history' stuff. But with all the talent involved, it could potenially grow.

I also added BELIEVE, which I believe (no pun intended) has run its first season by now. I haven't seen it yet. Seems to be something a la FIRESTARTER?

Seems like June is the big month when a lot of shows start up again, and quite a few interesting sci fi shows premiere.

I've added THE WHISPERS to the list, which will be premiering on June 1st. Also FEAR THE WALKING DEAD, which has not received a specific premiere date yet.

Finished BELIEVE, by the way. It was OK, but not as strong as the film FIRESTARTER or even the Kiefer Sutherland series TOUCH, with which it shares a lot. I got a little tired of the "help random people of the week" premise. I really need a defined story arc and that each episode relates to this arc. "Mystery of the week" or anthology shows are not really for me. In any case, I see now that BELIEVE was cancelled after the first season.

The creep factor rises and falls and rises again in the Canadian tv series A HAUNTING (2005-2015):

The series is a docudrama with narration and reenactments telling true-life stories of encounters with ghosts, the paranormal, etc. I only watched the first two seasons. Some episodes didn't cut it, but most were extremely well done.

Surprised not to see the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY films listed in your initial post. I rate them highly. Minimalism and suggestion are always more potent than depiction, but there is some depiction, too.

Good call on "A Haunting". While some episodes weren't up to snuff, but the majority are really well done. Also, I quite enjoyed "Paranormal Witness" which aired for 2 seasons on SyFy. They had a number of very creepy episodes.

I just added SENSE8 to the list, the new show by the Wachowskis and B5 creator J.M.S. Straczynski -- which will premiere on June 5. I've heard some mixed reviews of this. Some say the premise is great, but it's hampered by having too many characters. We'll see. I said the same thing about GAME OF THRONES at first, but it didn't take more than a couple of episodes before I was totally into it.

Yeah, season 2 isn't as strong as the first, although I did like the action in the Mexican compound. I'm gonna stick with it for a little while, though. The drop in quality is not as dramatic as HELIX, at least.

I've added Marvel's DAREDEVIL to the list, as well as WAYWARD PINES. Surprised neither of these hit shows have been mentioned by others.

Two new shows airing on SyFy.

Thanks, John. SyFy-produced shows are hit and miss, but I always give them a chance. I'll add them to the list. KILLJOYS looks a bit like the particular subgenre I'm not too keen on ("pointy ear sci fi"), but I've grown to like DEFIANCE -- which is in that category -- so maybe this will be OK.

Overall this is a very good show and yes, it takes a loooong while for the series to start making sense. They spend over half the season setting up the characters, who span the whole globe, from Chicago, Europe, Africa , Central and East Asia and Central America.

It certainly is NOT series for those squeamish about sex, as it is pretty explicit even for a Netflix series. But I love the fact that they shoot each characters scenes on location. Beautiful cinematography and a compelling characters with good actors to inhabit them.

Again, it takes a loooong while for the series to find its plot footing, or should I say, to finally tell you what it's about. But I for LOVED it by the end and am eagerly awaiting next year.

Not perfect by any means but it gets a solid **** for it being so damned emotionally moving at times.

DAREDEVIL is a fantastic series. Another solid entry in the Marvel film and tv canon. Great, great show.

WAWARD PINES - I'm still on the fence on this one, but at least after about 4 episodes or so, they actually tell you what this place is and I'm not sure if I'm sold on its premise yet.

I've added THE WHISPERS to the list....

Not sold on this one yet either. The previews are not really accurate in portraying what this show is about and again this is another one that I am not sold on its premise either. Its OK but I am giving it a chance though.

I am eagerly waiting on The Strain Season 2 to start up soon. Loved the first season.

Oh, I meant to ask you Thor, have you seen any of Bates Motel? If not...you are missing some great television. It's both tragic and creepy and Vera Farmiga is OUTSTANDING as Normans mother.

DAREDEVIL is good but way to violent for my tastes.
I would have preferred he solve more crimes like a detective instead of always with his fists.
But, its definitely worth seeing
brm

ps I don't know if they used make-up but D'onnofrio (sp?) looks exactly like the comic book KINGPIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah, no, haven't checked out that yet. I'm not sure it's paranormal(?), but may be a good show nonetheless. I'll add it to the list and check it out!

Sorry, I jumped ship on SENSE8 after 4 episodes. Simply too boring, and having more and more of the elements that have made the Wachowski productions in recent years jump completely overboard. Didn't care for the characters (except the guy in Africa), and the exposition was getting tiring. I know people said it gained steam mid-season, but it was already starting to tread LOST territory, IMO. Maybe I'll pick it up again at a later date, but for now I'll put it on hold.

Thank God he does it with his fists, I say. Traditional detective/crimesolving is perhaps the most boring TV genre I can think of (although I've found myself loving TRUE DETECTIVE, whose second season is far more traditional than the first).

true detective , HUH?
The season premiere of s.2 was terrible. Farrell is playing the same violent, drunken asshole that Harrelson did in s.1 (which I liked very much) but without the originality
Sorry, but I am not in the mood for anymore shows about cops who have anger issues , are divorced, drunk, and corrupt.
Bail
brm

ps it isn't just the violence of the Daredevil character that was too much , but also Kingpin.
They could have toned it down without harming the drama

Personally, I think DAREDEVIL is too "PC". Wouldn't have minded if they upped the grit a notch.

Like you, I wasn't enamoured with the first ep of TRUE DETECTIVE (S2), but it's starting to grow on me. I hope they eventually get to nurture some of the almost supernatural/eerie qualities they did with the Southern Gothic feel of the first season.

I've added ZOO to the list, although after having seen the first episode, I'm not sure this is up my alley.

Ongoing shows I'm following at the moment include DARK MATTER, DEFIANCE, EXTANT, FALLING SKIES, HANNIBAL, KILLJOYS, THE LAST SHIP, THE WHISPERS (which is largely disappointing, so I might jump ship), UNDER THE DOME (which is really getting messy, script-wise) and TRUE DETECTIVE. Plus, THE STRAIN and DOMINION just came back with new seasons.

Very sad to see WAYWARD PINES go, but that's the nature of show biz.

As always, looking for new paranormal/sci fi shows, but I haven't found anything by googling around.
