Qui Gon's Noble End?

Disney would be losing out if they waited weeks after the film's release to release the soundtrack. Making people wait until January for a Star Wars score by John Williams is not a smart move.

I don't put much credence in the "spoiler" reasoning, which even the Number One Fan of John Williams is only suggesting "one would imagine" is the case. This "information" didn't even come from the "Somebody on Facebook" who is an expert merely because he's one of the billion people who has a Facebook account.

The movie opens on Friday, December 18th, exactly one week before Christmas (also a Friday). Album release dates are also Fridays now. So to get the album out before Christmas means a release date of the 18th or possibly the 11th. Possible, certainly, but also in the middle of the Christmas crush.

Since the music industry now makes as much money from digital downloads as they do from physical CD sales, a download release concurrent with the film makes sense.

I hope that, same as the TFA novel, the soundtrack is at least released digitally the same day as the film. Mid January is way too late, IMO. Then again, maybe the report will be proved wrong and I can stop worrying. (Just for some historical context, Phantom Menace was one of the most anticipated movies of all time, and the soundtrack was still released a couple weeks before the film -- complete with track titles like, "Qui-Gon's Noble End." Evidently they weren't worried about spoilers that time around.)

A new mini-clip from The Force Awakens... see here

I don't know if I'd call that a theme per se but it is dramatically nice. I'd arch an eyebrow if I was told it wasn't Williams.

We do not know for sure if Williams was involved in the creation of that Instagram teaser. Something interesting, though: The Orphan Music Facebook account claims (https://www.facebook.com/OrphanMusicServices) that it and composer Felix Erksine "contributed music" to the teaser. This does not necessarily mean they scored the whole thing, though. Maybe Williams did most of the music and Orphan and Erksine just added, say, some extra percussion or sound effects.

It should be noted that Orphan Music posted something similar after the first trailer came out, even though there was official confirmation that Williams composed the music for that.

Couldn't they simply change the track titles or not include the spoiler track in the release (wow, did I just say that)? It's not like the music itself is going to spoil anything. Disney would be losing out if they waited weeks after the film's release to release the soundtrack. Making people wait until January for a Star Wars score by John Williams is not a smart move.

I would hate it if the soundtrack came out after. I could care less about track titles and wont pay much attention to them, but I really want to hear the music before I have any visuals to go with it.

Is this not an invented concern at this point? "Somebody on Facebook" said the CD is coming out in January, you "imagined" that this is to avoid spoilers. So what are we really talking about of any actual substance?

A few months ago, people on the internet would have you believe that JJ Abrams was insisting on a summer release, so terrified was he of plot leaks. Many here were treating this as fact. It was not.

So let's see what happens, and why.

SchiffyM has a good point. This is entirely speculation. Nothing has been officially confirmed. However, I should note that the Facebook poster himself connected the supposed late release to a fear of spoilers on the part of Abrams and co. What I "imagined" was that this is similar to the novel situation. (Of course, none of this matters if the poster is either wrong or lying.)

The original Facebook poster, Matt Cooper, posted this in the replies to his comment: "There is a specific release schedule that all the big retailers have already seen. My friend had a meeting with Disney folks last week. They didn't reveal specifics, but just that generalised info mentioned above. If it's any help, this is for the Australian arm of a U.S. retailer, a name that sort of rhymes with 'market'... But all the merch is having simultaneous (world-wide) release for each wave." Once again, we must remember that none of this has been verified officially.

Yeah, but that's not the score version. That's the song edition which has music by Ludacris, Beyonce, Sam Smith, Joss Stone, and many, many more.

So no expanded / collector's / different packaging nonsense this time? No bonus tracks from Target?

Deluxe Edition up at amazon.co.uk:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Wars-Awakens-Original-Soundtrack/dp/B014V6JIQK/ref=sr_1_11?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1441378625&sr=1-11&keywords=star+wars+soundtrack

Kind of hoping there will be a vinyl edition too, but that's my nostalgic side kicking in wink

Wonder if any of the original soundtracks are getting spruced up for a re-release?

Interesting. They have the same ASIN numbers, which means it could be a simple mispost... but that doesn't rule out a DE existing, either.

Oh yes! There will be a mess of different issues, I have no doubt.
From download only bonus tracks ala TRON LEGACY, to single discs and 2 disc editions ala FROZEN (2 discer being digipak)..there will be a world of hurt for the STAR WARS/JOHN WILLIAMS fan collector.
I predict a RIOT!!! I predict a RIOT!!!
