I had very low expectations for Wayward Pines because of M.N.S., but enjoyed it tremendously (though the last episode was a bit too actiony-traditional) good characters & well done twists. I was under the impression that Wayward Pines was renewed for another season.

Unfortunately not. frown

Wikipedia:

"In June 2015, it was announced that a second season was being considered based on the series' ratings, which included a record Live+3 DVR lift for a Fox network premiere.[19] However, the tenth episode was billed as the series finale, rather than the season finale, effectively ending the series."

At first I didn't care for Wayward but as it went along I hung in there and enjoyed it overall.

I've added ZOO to the list, although after having seen the first episode, I'm not sure this is up my alley.

Ongoing shows I'm following at the moment include DARK MATTER, DEFIANCE, EXTANT, FALLING SKIES, HANNIBAL, KILLJOYS, THE LAST SHIP, THE WHISPERS (which is largely disappointing, so I might jump ship), UNDER THE DOME (which is really getting messy, script-wise) and TRUE DETECTIVE. Plus, THE STRAIN and DOMINION just came back with new seasons.

Very sad to see WAYWARD PINES go, but that's the nature of show biz.

As always, looking for new paranormal/sci fi shows, but I haven't found anything by googling around.

I find Zoo extremely silly and while my roommate watches I have rolled my eyes and laughed out loud at the absurdity of it on more than one occasion. Look, I'm up with sci-fi premises and checking my brain at the door as it were, but "Day of the Animals" is scarier and more believable than this mess. I've found myself laughing at how many times the main lead James Wolk is seen smiling or smirking in almost every scene he is in. He probably feels the same way I do. wink

I gave up on Under the Dome after the beginning of season 2. Season 1 was OK but then it went off the rails for me.

True Detective Season One was one of the most compelling and suspenseful series I had seen. But this season...it was probably the worst series that HBO has produced in some time. It was such a boring and confusing mess and with the exception of Rachael McAdams, was horribly miscast with Vince Vaughn as a gangster(yeah, go ahead and giggle-but he did try hard though to be menacing) and the finale made it worse. Gah. I mean, so many names of corrupt cops and politicians were thrown around, talking about decades old cases and illicit land deals and other shit that made no difference to the overall story line, and yet there was no real central villain. Very disappointing.

The Strain is back and is as strong as last season. The cast works good together and is moving right along.

Hannibal is on its final season but I love how they follow the original stories and add new twists and characters to make it compelling and oft putting. Mads Mikkelsen as the title character is phenomenal. The whole cast is great and the cinematography is almost a work of art.

On an older series note, Thor, I'm not sure if it's on dvd or not, but did you ever watch the one and only season from 2012 of "The River"? Definitely on the paranormal side, with a heavy dose of Twilight Zone. I actually thoroughly enjoyed it.

Yeah, I did watch THE RIVER, and really liked it. Too bad there weren't more seasons.

I agree with the rest of your post; your opinions pretty much match mine in this regard.

Updated listing.

Well, both FALLING SKIES and HANNIBAL have finished their runs. Both ended kinda abrupt, but that's what you get when series are cancelled mid-season.

CONTINUUM is back on the air again, but I was never a big fan. Also, DOMINION, EXTANT, FEAR THE WALKING DEAD, THE STRAIN and UNDER THE DOME still have a few episodes left.

Other than that, I'm really on the lookout for a new show now.

Apparently, UNDER THE DOME has been cancelled too, despite ending on a cliffhanger.

Oh, well. It really plummeted this season (writing itself way off, like LOST), but managed to pull itself in somewhat towards the end.

Z NATION is back on the air, though.

Z Nation is one helluva fun show. It even got a few things right that The Walking Dead didn't.

Under The Dome's ultimate twist is so lame (if you go by the book), that maybe it's good most people won't find out.

Added the wonderful MR. ROBOT to the list (the non-paranormal section). Not that paranormal, strictly speaking, but it does have a few of those elements. Glad to see a second season has already been comissioned, because I loved the first.

ST-DS9

not as good as ENTERPRISE but better than ST: The next Ripoff

Boy, those last two seasons sure were (mostly) lame.
It turned into a mash-up of THE EXORCIST meets STAR WARS plus The Bible and unconvincing soap opera melodramatics .Phew!
S. 1-5 stand up well as good Sc0fi and good STAR TREK

next up; VOYAGER

It's one of the best shows currently on, IMO, and there are PLENTY of Del Toro trademarks in it. Especially the prologue about the master which he directed himself. But we tend to like very different things when it comes to TV shows most of the time, Bruce, so I'm not THAT surprised you didn't like it.

Thor, have you seen Afterlife? A horror drama, it had two seasons starting in 2005. Starred Lesley Sharp and Andrew Lincoln (of The Walking Dead fame). She's a legit medium who can't help but see ghosts. He's a pyschologist out to discredit her. The show was written and created by Stephen Volk, of Ghostwatch fame (the infamous fake documentary). The writing and acting are well above average for this sort of thing. Highly recommended if you like ghost stories.

Haven't seen it, no. Thanks for the recommendation. I never quite hooked on to MEDIUM with the few episodes I saw -- but I still aim to give it a proper shot again. Is AFTERLIFE similar to that?

One of the best series this year that I had the privilege to watch. I haven't watched the finale yet but I will this weekend.
