Why thank you, Bill! You're a saint in a West Ham home kit, which must be quite a balancing act. Alright, onward! 81) Dana Wilcox wrote words to the effect that I shouldn't be sad that Jack Cassidy died in a fire because Jack was physically abusive and a sex addict. Then in another thread Dana went on to make excuses for serial scumbag Charlie Sheen. Dana Wilcox on Jack Cassidy (not deserving of our sympathy): "I believe hearing from several sources that besides being a decent character actor, Jack Cassidy was a first class sleazeball, every bit the lowlife that he often played on TV suspense shows such as COLUMBO (except I don't think he ever really murdered anyone). Seems I remember that he was an insatiable sexhound (bisexually active) and in various ways quite abusive during his marriage to Shirley Jones... I defer to those more knowledgeable than I on this score, but I don't think ol' Jack probably was deserving of too much of our sympathy." ("Which Actor's Career Was Not Fully Realized?") http://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?forumID=7&pageID=2&threadID=23950&archive=1 Dana Wilcox on Charlie Sheen (deserving of our sympathy): "I can't believe people here are wishing that Sheen would die because he is addicted to a highly addictive drug. Nice people. You obviously don't get it that addicted people do crazy things. Everyone wanted to throw in the towel on Robert Downey, Jr., as I recall, but he was able to get himself straightened out and has done some nice work since then. I don't know Charlie Sheen so I can't hate him (as some you apparently do, wishing for his death), but where there's life there's hope so don't write him off. IMO he is a brilliant comic actor and the show is one of the best-written sitcoms on tv." ("Production Pulled on Two and a Half Men") http://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=76643&forumID=7&archive=0&pageID=1&r=400#bottom Man, I love this place.

Ah, that reminds me of one of my recent faves. In the "Which Re-recording?" thread, which had lately been beset by capering cartoons, a contributor referred to the "Bernstein Aida Collection". Though everyone carried on as if nothing had happened (like when someone passes wind in church), I'm sure it didn't go unnoticed. I suspect it was inadvertent, given that it's now been corrected (although preserved in a quote), but it still gave me a laugh.

85) Solium, your post in that very same thread merits inclusion here. "Free speech, even speech you don't like protects EVERYONE. Without it your freedom of thought and speech are at the mercy of those in power. Don't think saying something as flowery as "Friendship is magic" is any less susceptible to the wrath of others." It's like an outtake from The Omega Glory! The Solium/Phelps/Jehannum Axis The Phelps/Solium Bundt

Jim Phelps: Sept 20, 2005 from the What Book Are You Reading? thread Thanks, Oblicno! Seems like you and I like a lot of the same stuff, now give me back my identity!wink I also have H.G. Wells' The Island of Dr. Moreau on my re-read list. Haven't read it in over twenty years. Showing that Phelps directly owes his identity to me in some way (i refuse to claim responsibility). Also, this conversation was between Oblicno and Zelig. How times have changed. Around the same time we discussed Sgt Rock comics and how'd you'd just gotten into them and Master and Commander, and how i was waiting for the books (I owe Tall Guy the heads up on that).

There was a thread by someone who came and went with the breeze a few years ago, in which they kept banging on about F1 racing driver Michael Schumacher, how they had met him and also written a book about him. It was all very bizarre. I've tried looking for it with no luck, can anyone else remember? Oh yes Thomas, I remember her. She was SIR CHRISTOPHER LEE FAN. I've just done a "user" search, and she's there, although she hasn't posted in a long time. Her profile's still up though, and just reading it is quite an eye-opener in itself. I didn't revisit her posts though, but I might when I have more time. One classic line sticks in my mind. Something about seeing Christopher Lee's ghost. She said something like that he was very real, "I mean not seethrough or anything" (my inverted commas), which I found very strange and funny at the same time, just that expression "not seethrough". The thing is she was for real. I think her name was/is Gail something. She did write a book on Schumacher - some of us researched the claim, and it was indeed published, with all the typos intact. Eventually she stopped posting because some of us probably took the piss a bit, or ignored her. I can't remember. I might have a look at those old posts, just a quick glance to get the gist for now. I (obviously) can't be certain, but I get the impression that she was/is a genuinely nice woman Extremely odd though, which is sad in a way, in that the "Internet" is merciless in its facelesness, and she was probably looking for gentle reassurance and encouragement
