"Penny Dreadful" reached a dead end.

Best recent series involving dead people, "River."

Anyone seen "The Tunnel"?

I tried watching it, but gave up after about four episodes. I got fed up with PBS cutting the episodes.

I've added the upcoming show AFTERMATH to the list.

Looks kinda silly, though.

SOUTHLAND

every episode multiple LA police officers point their guns at unarmed people of color and not once do they ever shoot and kill anyone>

Would you classify that as sf or paranormal?

Although the first episode just aired here in the US, Fox's new series The Exorcist has started off with a top notch pilot episode.

The first episode does everything right that American Horror ( or Horrible ) Story does wrong. They focus on story, mood and unease, instead of glitz, gore and flash.

There were two moments in the first episode that creeped the hell out of me big grin Am really hoping the next episodes follow up and keep the excellent level of fright going. You can view it online from fox.com.

A really nice and eerie surprise.

Awesome. I get what the AHS guys are trying to do; very stylized -- but they often get so stylized and "hipster" that some of the feeling of PRESENCE is undermined. Sounds like the EXORCIST series remedies some of that; I've known about it for a while, but I didn't know the pilot was out already. Will add it to the list immediately.

And I just finished the first ep. of THE EXORCIST. Loved it. It got straight to the point far quicker than the "roundabout" series OUTCAST. Also goosebumps when "Tubular Bells" came on at the end.

A few shows have ended their seasons, while others are fortunately back on the air for another round -- GOTHAM, AGENTS OF SHIELD, THE LAST MAN ON EARTH, THE STRAIN, Z NATION and AMERICAN HORROR STORY (which is VERY disappointing so far). I've updated the first post accordingly.

I watched the first season of AHS and did not care for it.
SKipped the next two seasons and am trying to get thru the gruesome FREAK SHOW - the last season I will ever watch!

It really took some time for me to grasp this show too -- like HANNIBAL, it felt overly stylized at times, in a very "hipster" sort of way. In retrospect, the best season is either ASYLUM (2) or FREAK SHOW (4). Maybe ASYLUM, if I really had to pick one. I don't care for the latest season that is on now -- at least not yet. It seems cheap, even though I realize they're trying to emulate the 'reality shows' about mysteries and paranormal activities.

I've added WESTWORLD to the list, which premieres October 2nd, and is probably the biggest show in this genre in the upcoming period.

Don't know what the consensus is, but I absolutely LOVED the show, and was very bummed when it was cancelled after just one season. Had the potential to be one of the THE best sci fi/horror shows of the 2010s. We discussed it briefly here awhile back. So many things going for it -- the external threat, the Lynch-ian small city life with something 'odd' bubbling underneath, the time aspect etc.

The second season of Wayward Pines has come and gone since July of this year in the U.S. Or were you strictly speaking of the "Matt Dillon" Wayward Pines storyline of season 1? Jason Patric took over in Ssn 2. (I've not seen the show myself)

WHAT?!?!?

I saw the first season with Dillon, and then a few weeks later, I checked out IMDB/Wikipedia etc., which stated categorically that the show had been cancelled for good!

Holy crap, things have apparently happened after I crossed this one out. Season 2, here I come -- Dillon or no Dillon.

If only.

We even debated the cancellation passionately here:

And here's the article that launched the news last year (now with a note in the beginning mentioning Fox's reversed decision):

Finished the second season of WAYWARD PINES, and although it was nowhere near as good as the first (too many soap opera elements and too many cliffhangers about the same -- i.e. the foreboding abby invasion), it was nonetheless a season that kept me hooked. Alas, its mediocre ratings suggest to me that there will not be a third season. Despite ending on a cliffhanger. Oh well. Let's wait and see.

While we wait, I came upon a 2010 series with a slightly similar premise -- PERSONS UNKNOWN. Anyone familiar with this? I'll add it to the list and seek it out.

well, I am happy learn that season one is a "Self-contained" story
brm

ps after 3 eps I am not sure about this show. A lot of familiar elements from other shows (THE PRISONER< TWILIGHT ZONE, THE RETURNED etc.) ep>3 definitely improved things with that monster behind the wall ending
Fingers crossed

Indeed. The moment I was alerted to another season right here, I threw myself over it. Guess it's an unexpected advantage of learning it so late, because then I could watch all episodes at once.

Btw, finished the first ep of WESTWORLD. Very promising!
