Supernatural is worth watching still! I'm halfway through the 11th season and it's the strongest, best, most exciting, edge-of-your-seat thrilling it's been since the apocalypse of season 5 when Eric Kripke wrapped up his tenure.

The show's had it's lulls but it's making a huge resurgence in my opinion in season 11, with Mark Pellegrino returning as Lucifer in particular. Brilliant. The villain of the season, "The Darkness", is spellbinding too and her origins are really cool.

finished the first ep of WESTWORLD. Very promising!

Promises to make me wish I were watching GAME OF THRONES. I thought it ponderous and dull. I think it wants to be BLADE RUNNER dressed up as WESTWORLD. For me, it better get better.

New time travel series from NBC, airing 3rd October.

http://www.nbc.com/timeless?nbc=1

This is Eric Kripke's new series, the pilot aired last night, and it's gotten mostly good reviews. I enjoyed the heck out of it. Keep in mind, this is an adventure series. Fast, light, funny. It moved along at a lightning pace, just zipping by, really.

But yeah, it just barrels along so fast, it just throws you into the adventure and expects you to hang on. They toss some brief time travel set up/ exposition in there, but it's constructed with such a comic book pace, don't look for anything resembling serious science fiction.

I mean...Back To The Future was deeper big grin

That being said, for me it was funny and fun. And they dropped some nice morsels for the episodes ahead to snag my interest.

The second episode of The Exorcist aired last week, and it wasn't as gripping as the pilot, but it did build the story and mood and work on characters. It opened with a really eerie sequence, and ended with...well...you gotta see it. razz

Both are promising.

Agreed. I've been following it avidly throughout several years now, and the new season is coming soon. I wonder how long it will go on? Must be one of the longest running sci fi shows this side of DR. WHO.

Which is, like, one of the greatest compliments I could think of! smile

Love the show, and I prefer it vastly over the rather dusty and hokey original film.

Not a compliment from me -- I hate BLADE RUNNER. It's puddle deep science fiction.

I do agree that the original WESTWORLD movie is hokey -- and also puddle deep.

Good that we can agree on one thing, but then also disagree so vehemently on another! smile

That's true, but like many time travel shows and films, it quickly gets into logic trouble.

I mean, if the "new" Hindenburg disaster has so huge consequences for Lucy's personal life (mother still alive, daugher gone), then how come it has seemingly none to very little consequence for the "crew" upon return? They seem to remember the mission they were sent out on before the 'change', and most things seem to be pretty much the same as when they left? Heck, who's to say there even IS a 'time travel lab' upon return?

...... A lot of familiar elements from other shows (THE PRISONER< TWILIGHT ZONE, THE RETURNED ...

I would add TRUMAN SHOW, PLANET OF THE APES

I LIKE IT.
iT was really redeemed by the excellent cast - Dillon, Jones , Lewis, Leo...
Nice to see a show cast for quality and not to satisfy the "diversity mafia: and the young folks

Oh, there's no doubt the whole thing is flimsy. As you said, lots of these time travel stories run into the same trap. With Timeless, they just don't care - they're just wanting to give the viewer a joyride.

In the very first act of the pilot, we see our heroine brought to the super secret time travel lab, get a 2 sentence brief on traveling through time, get told "Yeah we have a time machine and you're gonna get in it" , which she does and ZIP she's a time traveler - everything is set up and shoved into motion in about the first 12 minutes.

If the show had any deeper meaning or serious intent, it would bother me. But they just design the show to be a comic booky gosh-golly adventure, and it has such momentum and a good tongue in cheek attitude, it works.

I don't think the thing will last past one season, if it makes it that far, but for me it was a refreshing alternative to shows which want to be dark, philosophical, important. razz

Yeah, it's a good show. I was skeptical at first due to the "teenage" factor, but it's grown beyond that. Hope it will be able to continue for a while and at least finish its storyline. I don't really get any GRAVITY vibes, but there obviously other references throughout (among post-apocalyptic films and shows).

Trying out two new shows on SyFy channel:

Channel Zero is an anthology of sorts, apparently the plan is a six episode arc airing now, and early next year another six with a different storyline, both based on internet "creepypasta" /urban legend type stories. The first arc running now, Candle Cove, is centered around an evil children's show that may or may not exist, but leads children to do horrible things. Looking around the internet it seems to have generally good reviews, but I found the pilot to be awkward and poorly staged. There are some great eerie visuals, but the lead actor is awful and the script really needed some reworking. But will try one or two more episodes.

Aftermath follows a family in the wake of a supernatural apocalypse, it isn't as gloomy and wannabe serious as Channel Zero, aiming for pulpy thrills instead. Not great, but it hooked me enough to try a few more episodes. It was briskly paced enough to keep things moving and not leave a lot of time to ask questions. And it also had a few good darkly humorous moments.

Neither one really stands out to me so far, but at least it ain't American Horrible Story big grin

I'm a bit confused by you using both the words 'anthology' and 'story arc'. I'm not a big fan of shows consisting of individual stories for each episode. I'm more of a story arc guy. So what is this? Is it like AMERICAN HORROR STORY or TRUE DETECTIVE with a story arc each season, and then another story arc the next?

I'm following this, and it's a silly goofball show in true SyFy tradition -- throwing posessions, apocalypse, disease and friggin' dragons all into one mix. Not sure what to make of it yet; it may have a brainless-type of entertainment value a la Z NATION, but I'll see how it develops.

Sorry...yeah Channel Zero will feature a completely different story for each six episode run. So, Candle Cove runs 6, then a winter break and the next Channel Zero in 2017 will be a new six episode story. The creators referred to it as an anthology, like, as you said, True Detective or AHS

Really? I think it gets better and better. The end of season 2 is pretty awesome, as well as the entirety of season 3 where an A.I. element is introduced.

it's all action and there are so many factions fighting i can not keep track of things!
Plus, it is so derivative of other , better post -apocalYpse shows (.eg REVOLUTION)

Without the the space station element it just isn't worth watching anymore
