Tomb Raider (2018) by the Junk. Whatever your view of the music written for the film or Junk's skills as a film composer, this will be one that I will add to the playlist for the gym.

I love a bit of John Barry in the gym. Settle down into the cross trainer, cue up the JB and zzzzzzzz.
Nice.

That's easy: the amazing Ice Chase from Goldsmith's Chain Reaction.

Not being familiar with this I’ve just listened to it all the way through. It didn’t seem especially Icy or Chaseysmile but I’ve always said his music works better with visuals. Parts of it sounded almost like John Barry action music. Is this track particularly well thought of in what you might call Cult circles?

Just read this back and it looks like I’m angling for a ruck, which I’m not. Forget I asked smile

LOL in the day I used to shoot hoops for hours under the moonlight at the jr. high court with a fake boombox. Nothing like the Wagner track from the Apocalypse Now album turned up all the way with Duvall and the choppers blasting away. Must've echoed throughout the whole grounds. It was great! Psyched me up every time, hit them 20-footers like layups.

Some of you guys have the weirdest workout routines and music.

I have to echo what I said when this thread was first created, a few years ago.

I haven't been to a gym or worked out since late 2016, and have become very fat indeed (95 kilos at the present time), but I doubt I would play any film music at all in this circumstance.

I guess I don't even have to agree, my feelings are probably obvious.

The definitive, heavy metal version of Valkyries is on the Georg Solti-conducted Decca CD, "Die Walküre".

Might I suggest naming the tracks/score and composer, just incase the links provided go bad.

If I do listen to music while working out, it's usually Felix Slatkin's Capitol album THE MILITARY BAND.

Music isn't conducive to good form in weight-training and really good gyms are silent, for concentration. Rhythm is dictated by the exercise, not vice versa, and negative tension 1 up, 2 down isn't something figuring in a lot of key-signatures! As regards cardio, it can relieve boredom.

I freely admit I shudder at the thought of someone exercising to Wagner's Valkyries. You wonder what child-like titan fantasies are in there. I hope none take offense if I say I doubt some of these declarations. You see this sort of thing in film montages, but that doesn't mean it's reversible.

I can see Kubrick wailing, 'What have I done?'

If you're on a stationary exercise bike, action music or something with a beat, is wonderful.

TV for everything else. Though I have sued some TV in the past for a stationary bike, like "Nash Bridges" and "Miami Vice".

Sir McCrum has a point. Back when I used to powerlift (a discipline that takes one heck of a lot of concentration on form) the gym I went to had zero for tunes. That said, on my work sets (i.e. sets that were over 8 reps) I'd listen to my headphones. It's only when I got down below 5 reps that I had no choice but silence, because getting distracted even a little can wreck you in powerlifting. There's too much weight not to focus intently on form.
