Alien: Resurrection alternate album edit (using the LLL) courtesy of danbeck: Posted: Oct 31, 2010 - 11:05 PM By: danbeck (Member) Got mine also. And it is much better in this release than on the original album. The previously unreleased tracks ad much more sense to the theme and variations approach adopted by Frizzell for this score. New tracks like "Foot Massage-Fast Learner" and "Elgyn's Death" are great, but the highlights are the tracks for the finale, the previously unreleased portion of "Birth of the Newborn", "Call Meets the Newborn" (my favourite track of the entire soundtrack), the "Finale" (for sure the track more missed when the original album was released) and the End Titles march. Really hope this one is selling well. If I had to recommend an alternate "album arrangement" I'd ommit some of the suspense - short tracks from the begining of the movie, just to get faster to the fantastic final portion of this score, in fact I've programmed it for my IPod as follows: CD1(1), CD1(3), CD1 (6), CD1(8), CD1(9), CD2(15) I prefer this edited version of the Aliens Escape - removing some of the start-stop structure of the original track to result in more full action flow, CD1(12), CD1(14), CD1(16), CD1(17), CD1(18), CD1(19), CD1(21), CD1(22), CD2(1), CD2(2), CD2(3), CD2(4). http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?pageID=3&forumID=1&threadID=72588&archive=0

So, due to SBD and Graham telling me my RUSSIA HOUSE whittle was too short, I went back to the CD this weekend to see what tracks could/should be added. The only two tracks that could make the jump are 'Crossing Over' and 'The Deal', but even those just feel a bit 'more of the same'. I honestly think this score says all it's got to say within the first 6 tracks. I added Barley's Love cos it plays like a nice album closer. I'm gonna play those two cues a few more times and see if they can take my existing 22 minute programme closer to an old Varese Sarabande 30 minute classic CD. Cheers! --------- 'The Family Arrives' is a good cue because it develops into a nice jazz track and would bring you nicely up to the 30 minute level...

Regarding the Williams whittlings... well, you know I don't whittle, but I can see where Kev's coming from with his MINORITY REPORT prog. I do find quite a lot of JW's post-2000 CDs to be quite hard to get through in one sitting, although it might be partially due to my waning attention span. If I did whittle, I'd do something with the aforementioned MINORITY REPORT too, plus his other Spielberg collaborations WAR OF THE WORLDS and (possibly especially) MUNICH. But as I've said before, when I listen to those albums, I prefer to "do" them in chunks of around 20 minutes, then continue later. That way even the dense, heavy, "boring" tracks sound like they're being listened to anew.

Yeah (Thor & Graham), while it is somewhat sacrilege to even dare 'whittle away at the Williams', his latter years scores have contained some 'noodling suspense/atmospheric' cues that may work great in the film, but slow down the pace of the 60-70 minute CD or even stop it stone dead. Like Graham says, Munich is VERY GUILTY of this, I would agree. Seven Years In Tibet is another that needed some whittle (maybe Geisha too). My bigger problem with War Of The Worlds wasn't so much any dull tracks, but the 'out of order' sequencing, which for me (this time) ruined the ebb and flow of the music. Like the JNH/Shyamalan scores (The Village, Lady In The Water), once I re-jigged WOTW into film sequence order, I enjoyed it a whole lot more. Saying that, stuff like War Horse and Lincoln, I canna get enough of.

I can’t believe people remove The Conversation from CE3K! I even added Advance Scout Greeting to the main program! They are vital to the score!

Great topic, Kev! Sacrilege or not, this is how I prefer Temple of Doom: Return to the Village / Raiders March Nocturnal Activities Indy and the Villagers Short Round's Theme The Scroll/To Pankot Palace The Temple Of Doom Approaching The Stones Short Round Escapes Saving Willie Water! The Broken Bridge/British Relief End Credits Yup, it is indeed missing at least half the cues from the original album -- because Williams put all the wrong music on the original, and left-off most of the best stuff!
