Raise the Titanic is an evergreen. I played the DVD sound-clip suite from Youtube twice yesterday, and I want to play the Silva now but I'm stuck at work. Not everybody gets it, and they say Barry did "this kind of thing" many times, but I don't quite think so. I find the various melodies in this score exceptionally haunting. And it's not because I'm thinking about the movie or the actual ship— I'm not. It's because the music is intrinsically good. Raise the Titanic and The Black Hole are both excellent, RTT being the greater one, but both scores suffer disrespect for the second-class status of their namesake movies.

I know of them but they're too expensive for me to partake just because of a peripheral, scoring related interest. Cheers

Whatever self-assessment John Barry gave his own score, it's one of my favorite Barry scores. The Raise the Titanic score seemed to kick off a maverick period for JB, where you couldn't be sure what project he would take next, or precisely what shadings within his own style he would choose. Obviously Raise the Titanic got towering majesty, combined with the mystery sound that was Barry's forte.

I just listened to RAISE THE TITANIC again today (the Nic Raine recording, which I have since it came out), while we were diving around the coast (yes, not the best acoustic, but it’s a decent multi speaker car system). It's a gorgeous score, it's the best "Titanic themed" score there is (sorry, James Horner). The grandness, the nostalgia, the myth of the Titanic, it's all there in the music. I haven't watched the movie, though I have read the novel on which it was based, so I am familiar with the plot. Can't say how the original recording compares to the newer recording, but I enjoy the Raine recording a lot. Great sound.

A custom writing expert is a professional writer who provides tailored writing services to meet the specific needs of clients. I think I like the "help me identify these songs" spams better. So... Favorite composer is "Chris Nolan", hm?
