I've listened to most of the samples now and am surprised about how music atonal music was used in TV movies and series of the day. Perhaps more than in the theatrical films released during the same time. I've really got to get this set now since there is a lot of pretty sophisticated, modernistic composition contained within. Mix it in with some funky 70's sounds, a bit of jazz, traditional scoring, etc. and this set packs quite a wallop from some fine composers!
For a moment, I thought EARTH II referred to EARTH 2, one of my alltime favourite series and one of the most underrated too - with a superb score by David Bergeaud. Was this older EARTH II about the same thing?
I can just barely remember it, but it's about a space station (Earth II) and an event involving it that may trigger WWIII.
I liked Earth 2 also and wish it had had an ending, but then again I'm still waiting for the Space Family Robinson to get back to Earth!
For some reason, I used to get this mixed up with the Roddenberry pilot of the 70s, Planet Earth. Here's a review of Earth II.
And all the other superior stuff is of no interest to you?
Well, I'm sure there's some nice music there and under other (financial) circumstances I might have taken the plunge, but it's practically "unknown territory" to me, and right now I have to REALLY prioritize what I purchase. I can't take a chance on a $60 box, out which I don't really have any connection to any of the series and don't really connect that much to the music either. The Williams score is the only drawing power for me right now, as Williams items are some of the few things I DO prioritize these days.
Well I won't be buying it either. I haven't seen any of the shows, & with One-eyed Jacks & a possible The Deep next week, I'm happy if that's it for the rest of the year.
This is one astounding release! So much soundtrack goodness stuffed into one package, and at a price per disc which is well below the usual and customary. THIS.........THIS.........THIS........THIS IS TRULY THE GOLDEN AGE OF SOUNDTRACK COLLECTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And what wonders yet await?
I'm kind of the other way, CinemaScope. I have next to no connection with any of the shows on the disc, but to have all those great composers lumped together doing things nobody's ever heard, and from an era which was very creative in TV, well, it's like a big party lucky dip for me. I'll be getting it for sure, but even HUNTERS ARE FOR KILLING may have to wait. That's how excited I am about this set.

Space station, eh? Could it be a contender for my spaceship/space station thread?

I think a lot of it takes place on Earth so maybe not, but my memory is a bit dim on it.
The cover artwork looks like one of those special fall issues of TV Guide that I used to get so excited about when I was a kid because it had the previews of the upcoming new shows. Looks like a super package from FSM!
You get a see-gar, Mark. That was my inspiration from the start, mixed up with Doug Trumbull's titles for the ABC Movies of the week. Some of us didn't haven anything better to do but watch TV in the early 1970s.
Just looking at your cover Joe brings the excitement of those days right back! I can just see those shiny pages of colorful photos of the casts for each new show and reading the descriptions for each to see which ones I wanted to check out. It was almost like waiting for Christmas. Great idea for this exciting set!
Hope this is still around on Monday when I get paid again. Looks like a tremendous set and lots of stuff on there to enjoy. Thanks Lukas and all the folks at FSM.
I am very excited about receiving the FSM TV Omnibus release. The Lalo Schifrin Vol. 1 box was a really fine offering and the line-up on this new set of TV music indicates that FSM is batting 1000 percent.
