This may be stretching a point but I can think of a couple of examples from the Classical world:
The ballet Coppelia by Delibes - an inventor makes a life-size doll that a young man falls in love with.
Petrushka, Stravinsky's ballet about several life-size puppets brought to life by a character called the Charlatan.
And in the Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky, there's music for the inventor Drosselmeyer turning the Nutcracker into a life-size doll who becomes a prince.
The opera La Boheme by Puccini is about a bunch of artists and Bohemians, and I think they do some creative work to music (it's been decades since I've seen it, not sure).
The best example may be Wagner's ring cycle of operas, you've got very specific music for making the ring, forging the magic sword, etc.
