My fiancee and I are going to an advance screening this Saturday. I can't wait!

Samples are up. Looks like a Feb. 4 release date for the downloads and a Feb. 11 date for the CD.

I'm liking what I'm hearing. I can hear some thematic material shared between tracks, it's got a nicely quirky style, and the song lyrics sound side-splitting. Definitely on-track to become a sleeper favorite like Wreck-It Ralph for me smile

Oh, I adore this movie. It appears most or all of the critics do, too:

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_lego_movie/

I will say I thought it looked good from the same trailers that a few posters here thought made it look awful, so obviously not everyone's tastes are in sync (and I freely admit to a bias anyway, in that I'm predisposed to like LEGO anything), but I will also say that thankfully, this isn't one of those movies where the best bits are in the trailers - the overall movie is much better. It's quite funny, but also with a bit of heart, and I can see this movie enduring as a family classic. I can't wait to see it again on the actual opening day, and in the days and weeks after that.

Oh, and incidentally...

I was alerted to this tonight. My first reaction was... wut. Srsly, wat?

Of all the people who frequent this forum, you're the last one I'd have thought would be thrown off by animation based on toys. What's up with that?

This sounds good. We just watched Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 and I LOOOOVED Mothersbaugh’s score.

io9 interviews the film makers:

Phil Lord: We got The Whistler from the Ennio Morricone soundtrack.

Chris Miller: He's still alive!

Phil Lord: He's still around and he lives in Italy and Mark Mothersbaugh tracked him down. And then got him to whistle in this movie. Out of retirement!

Rotten Tomatoes has now counted 27 reviews for the movie, all of them positive, giving it a Pixar-on-their-best-days-ish 100% Fresh rating, at least for the moment. While I'm sure some grump out there won't like it and will knock that rating down to double digits, having seen the movie I'm confident its rating both will stay high and deserves to. It may be only February, but I doubt I'll see anything else as much fun for at least the rest of the year, and I think it probably already has next year's Oscar for Best Animated Film in the bag. But that's just me...

Three full-length tracks from the score:

"Cloud Cuckooland" has that definite Devo feel to it. This score will have kids bouncing in their seats.

Armond White, that's your cue. To bite me.

That's who I was thinking of when I wrote that - honestly, I think Toy Story3 is just outstanding - but it was Kyle Smith of the New York Post this time. He's currently the only critic (at least among the 82 counted by RT as of this writing) to have panned it outright (there are one or two others who come close but ultimately come down on the positive side; most critics seem to really enjoy it). I'm dying to see it again, myself... and again... and again...

I don't know what happened in the screening I saw, but the score seemed like it was mixed so low I couldn't even hear it most of the time.

"Emmet's Morning," "Emmet's Plan" and "Saloons & Wagons" make for a helluva fun drive to work in the morning.

I agree, Jon, that the ENTIRE album is a bit much, back-to-back in one sitting, but overall I think the album's a ton of fun. As a guy who likes his orchestras AND his chiptunes, this one is right up my alley.

LEGO fan site The Brick Fan now reports a vinyl release of the soundtrack is forthcoming:

"The Double LP will be packaged in a full color gatefold jack and will include an eight page 12" x 12" fully colored booklet with liner notes by composer Mark Mothersbaugh. The album itself is the same as the on the audio CD version which includes the full 24-track score plus four different versions of Everything is Awesome which is nominated for Best Original Song at the 2015 Oscars.

If you’re the hardcore vinyl collector, there are also some limited special edition colored vinyl variants of the LP that will be available exclusively at SpaceLab9. These colored versions are based around The LEGO Movie’s key characters including red and yellow. The other colored haven’t been announced but I’m going to guess blue for Benny and pink for Unikitty."
