Two excellent neo-classical Italian cello concertos in deft performances. While there are several versions of the Casella, the Pizzetti is a rarity. And it's very good indeed, making me wish that all of his orchestral music were available. The only piece of his that has stayed in the repertoire is the opera Murder in the Cathedral.
Bottesini: Chamber Works (Duetto/Capriccio/Gran Quintetto) Botto/Dorella/Ghio/Laro/Quintetto D'Archi del Teatro Regio Torino
Very attractive works with a strong operatic influence by the "Paganini of the double-bass" with the illustrious, globe-trotting career both as a performer and a conductor (he was chosen by Verdi to conduct the first performance of 'Aida' in Cairo). Another Chandos winner!
As for Smashing Pumpkins, I was never a big fan when they were "hot". Maybe it's time for a re-evaluation.
Same here. I think you'll find your opinion of them unchanged upon re-evaluation of their music (at least that's what I found when I went back into their work recently).
"So shut that buckle and turn that key again, Take me to a place they say the dreaming never ends, Open wide drive that mystery road, Walk through Eden's garden and then wonder as you go."
"In a little hilltop village, they gambled for my clothes I bargained for salvation and she gave me a lethal dose I offered up my innocence I got repaid with scorn Come in, she said I'll give ya shelter from the storm"
