Just came out of the Eric Whitacre afternoon Prom. What a waste of time that was. I had never heard the name before, but when I read that he had cooperated with Hans Zimmer on Pirates of the Caribbean I knew there was trouble ahead. His music is just the worst kind of quasi-minimalistic, quasi-neoromantic mush for dummies that I have ever heard. Plus the most boring, glossy, santinized version of the Rhapsody in Blue - ever! And of course the RAH was almost filled to capacity. At least the Copland (Quiet City) was decent.
Just played Beethoven's String Quartet No.1, Op.18/1 - Alban Berg Quartett (1980) from this new addition box set:
... excellent, now playing Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem (A German Requiem, To Words of the Holy Scriptures) Op.45 - Klaus Tennstedt / London Philharmonic Orchestra & Choir & BBC Symphony Chorus (1984)
from another box set, the marvellous:
I'm trying to decide whether to book tickets to see/hear this piece live later this year.

Hmm, Brahms' German Requiem live? Unless you have reservations about the orchestra/chorus or the conductor I say go!
