Enescu: Octuor/Dixtuor
Ensemble of 'G. Enescu' Bucharest Phil./Cristian Mandeal

It's a pity that George Enescu to many music lovers is just the composer of the First Romanian Rhapsody. These two chamber works, played expressively by his compatriots, demonstrate his considerable talent.

I love the cover art for those old Living Stereo recordings.

As I mentioned a few posts back, I've been listening to Blur's comeback album, The Magic Whip, constantly the last few weeks. I think it might be their strongest album.

I've also been re-running several YouTube clips lately of both old and new songs Examples include:

New Order - "Plastic" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THwp-hWtC5Y

Froya - "Uncomprehended Child" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lp4aXOKq7fw

Scatman John - "Scatman" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hy8kmNEo1i8

Pixies - "Isla de encanta" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SmmSOsTTsQ

Annett Louisan - "Pärchenallergie" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-EvC9xx1LI

Editors - "Sugar" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWcc5VJiRVA

A weird mix, but I'm finding some enjoyable stuff.

Aside from a few of their singles in the 1990s, I had never gotten into Blur until now. (Actually, I sat out most of the rock/pop scene in the 90s and early 2000s) I've been listening to their eight albums either through library copies or playing YouTube clips. Really enjoying the large amount of solid tracks they have created over the years. Their latest album, THE MAGIC WHIP, is excellent.

I've also tried sampling other groups likened to them (Oasis, Pulp, et al), but none of them grab me as much. Any connoisseurs here of melodic 1990s rock who can lead me to an act on Blur's level? Thanks!

I was never into those bands at all. When other people listened to brit pop, I stuck with the synth pop of Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, New Order, Tears For Fears, Simple Minds and so on.

First Breath, these acts you've listed - especially PSB - are huge favorites of mine as well, although I must admit I'm having fun exploring 90s Britpop. smile

I'd take Pet Shop Boys over those '90s bands anytime!

Two ballet scores, one epic (and very cinematic), the other stylish and playful - what a DELIGHT of a disc!
