One of my favorite moments in S1 is the finale of "Snowball in Hell." The IMF are about to leave but Barney still hasn't emerged from the prison dungeon. Briggs looks concerned. Then a hand appears on Briggs' shoulder, Barney nods, the team takes off, cue crazed brass and put up the Geller credit. Love it!

What do you guys know about the late 1980s revival series which starred Graves? (Greg Morris apparently is in a few episodes [his son Phil, of course, starred in this iteration].) Worth seeing?

The 1988-90 remake of "Mission: Impossible" was hastily put together to fill a gap in ABC's schedule caused by the 1988 writer's strike. It was produced in Australia and used some of the same scripts from the original series. Peter Graves returned as "Jim Phelps." As mentioned, Phil Morris (son of Greg Morris) was technical ace "Grant Collier," son of "Barney Collier." Tony Hamilton was muscleman "Max Harte." Thaao Penghlis was actor "Nicholas Black." Terry Markwell (1988-89) was "Casey Randall" and Jane Badler (spring 1989-1990) was athlete "Shannon Reed." Technological change even came to the series' opening sequence: instead of the old self-destructing tape, the new version featured a self-destructing laser disc.

Haven't seen it since it aired, but I remember it being mediocre, mostly because you were constantly reminded of the former cast by younger imitations of them. Just didn't work. Very cheap 80s goofy stuff if I remember correctly. That said, I wouldn't mind revisiting it to see if I might appreciate it more now. Certainly had a fun version of the theme.

Old Man Out remains my favorite of the season. Must revisit...

I agree with you all the way. It felt like a clone with no soul. It looked artificial and plastic.
There was no chemistry with the characters. The music was un-inspired and flat.
Don't bother to get into that zombie remake.

Thanks for the responses. smile Looks like I don't need to hunt down the 1980s series with any urgency, but hope to see a few eps from it eventually.

As of right now, in my mixed-up style, I'm finishing up season 3 while working on season 7. Just picked up season 6 from the library - that and the in transit season 4 (which ought to arrive next week) will keep my M:I splurge going well into September. The fifth season still remains my favorite - it's too bad the team with Nimoy and Warren didn't stick around longer.

Nimoy didn't like his job on the series and broke his contract.
Season 5 is a one of a kind in terms of tone.
Season 6 is my favorite 'realistic' era season of MISSION.

How did it go with the season seven viewing?

How did it go with the season seven viewing?

A good crew - Phelps, the great Barney, a more active Willie, and the lovely Casey and Mimi.

I should have made a comment about the S7 episodes right after watching them. I remember especially liking Leona, Cocaine, Hit, Incarnate, Boomerang, and Kidnap.

I will certainly be watching all seven seasons again this year.

As I've probably mentioned throughout this thread, I prefer "The Syndicate Years", with S7 being my favorite. Barney Collier was the heart of M:I, so to see him get to do more undercover stuff makes it the most rewarding for a fan of that character.

I'm afraid I might be "jinxing" the cast of this show. Steven Hill died last year in the midst of my first viewing of all seven seasons. And now after starting season 1 this week....

R.I.P. Rollin.

Don't start playing Chess with Antonius Block just yet, Scythed One. After all, these performers were well into their eighties and nineties when they died.

Their work is supposed to outlive them. smile

True, but if William Smithers kicks it next month, don't look at me!

In Memoriam actor Martin Landau (1928-2017)

"Oh. Excuse me. You intellectuals. Loyal, loyal, loyal. To whom? To yourselves? To your own little small world? You sell your soul and then you rationalize that it is for the good of something greater as yet undefined. Come now, Doctor. Admit it. Too much learning undermines a man's loyalty."
—East German Deputy Commissioner of Police Herr Browder from "The Reluctant Dragon".

Name: Martin Landau
Profession: illustrator, cartoonist, actor and acting teacher at the Actor's Studio

Trivia:
He was in the same promotion as Steve McQueen when he entered the Actor's Studio in New York; he guest starred in two Steve McQueen's vehicles: an episode of "Wanted: Dead or Alive" entitled "The Monster" as greedy elephant trainer Khorba and the feature film: "Nevada Smith". In the late 1950's, the first people he met in Hollywood were New Wave director Monte Hellman (who taught Landau the art of photography through a 24x36 camera) and writer-producer Bruce Geller (hence Geller's creation of the character of Rollin Hand). He didn't appear in the following "Mission: Impossible" episodes: "Fake Out", "The Short Tail Spy" (both from season 1). MISSION's season 1 earned him an Emmy Award for "Outstanding Continued Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Dramatic Series". In the early 1960's, he refused the part of Mr. Spock for "Star Trek". Landau's ability to play so many picturesque characters "may" be attributed to his drawer background.

I have really become a M:I fanatic during this month of August 2016. I just finished season 1 and am watching seasons 3 and 7 simultaneously now!

My top 10 for season 1 (for now; might alter here and there at a later reviewing) in alphabetical order.

Action!
The Carriers
Elena (not a favorite ep. among the others on this thread, but I'll follow Barbara Luna anywhere)
The Frame
Memory
Operation Rogash
The Ransom
The Reluctant Dragon
Shock
The Train

I finished watching season 1 of M:I for the second time this month, and I need to make a couple of revisions to my top 10:

The Carriers
The Frame
Memory
Old Man Out
Operation Rogash
The Ransom
The Reluctant Dragon
A Spool There Was
The Train
Zubrovnik's Ghost

Now onto my "re-view" of season 2.
