I'd still like to know where to get a legitimate lossless download from, what with the CDs being so pants.

https://www.7digital.com/artist/hans-zimmer-and-benjamin-wallfisch/release/blade-runner-2049-original-motion-picture-soundtrack-6952443

Many thanks! Paid for, downloaded and better than the CD...

Better than the CD because the first track does not contain the mentioned distortion? Or any other reasons. Technically, the sound quality should exactly be the same. Since people noticed there are anomalies on the first CD track not present in the digital download, I wonder why that is so? It's unlikely they did two different masterings?

... hmm, what happened - I returned to this score when re-ordering my collection, started to listen to it... and suddenly started appreciating it, liking, even beginning to love it.

Makes me want to watch the movie again.

Maybe I was totally wrong panning it, being too much influenced by my expectations of it being more like the original.

In any event, I'm publicly eating my hat on this one.

As a New Year´s resolution I should vow to wait judging scores too early, allowing myself to familiarize with them, giving them more chances and get rid of these damned expectations of what a piece of art should be.

Agree, you can't judge a full package by film, cinema, its normally the opposite when you have the score in hand, I don't rag scores like I do films, guess that's the nucleus though.

I have to admit, I've listened to this soundtrack so many times these past few months, it's as if I've listened to nothing else and is clearly my most listened-to score of 2017. It's no Vangelis Blade Runner, but it must be doing something right.

Passionately hated this on first listen and after seeing the film, went back to it with new ears and love it now. One of these scores where you look back on the first impression and reflect ‘what was I thinking,,’ The track ‘SEAWALL’ is just amazing with those waves of sound surging over you.
On another note about the whole debacle of the limited release, I refused it here in Scotland when it turned up, complained to PayPal and got my money back without any hassle. Bought the regular one in the shops. ??

I listened to the MP3 of the score once on my car stereo system on my way home from work and was surprised by how much I enjoyed the score on its own. I've seen the movie and did not notice how diverse the music actually is. It's an immense and quite nuanced soundscape. May not be for everyone, but I very much enjoyed the quite original and melancholy musical tapestry. Vangelis' Tears in Rain near the end grows organically out of the music, and songs by Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra take up the function"One More Kiss, Dear" had in the Vangelis score.
My "limited" (haha) edition has finally arrived; nice cover, though, I may just keep it. Don't know about the sound distortions yet, have to check.

Saw the film over Christmas, though the score worked very well in it. As a standalone experience I didn't enjoy it before seeing the film, however after a number of previous listens it certainly has grown on me.

Fabulous track. The whole score is quite impressive. I did not have high hopes when Zimmer became attached but was most pleasantly surprised at what I heard. I believe this is one of those rare scores that actually benefits from having a "loud" sound. I saw the film in an IMAX theater twice and reveled at the sounds and music washing over (and through) me.

Still, as much as I love this score....then you have Vangelis' score for the original. I've nearly blown up iTunes from having played Blade Runner Blues so many times. Now that piece of music is sublime.

....and folks here complain about DUNKIRK being nothing more than "sound design?".
Gimme a break!

I've played the standard shop-bought CD release. No distortion issues at all. I've used various set ups: speakers, amplifiers, CD players, headphones -- all fairly high-end. The discs are highly modulated, so I'd recommend sensible volume levels and definitely no bass-boosting.

There is deliberately distorted LOUD guitar.
Is that the source of complaints?

I'm referring to the bass overloading right at the beginning of of disc one that some people have complained about. It's definitely not on the disc. Probably audio clipping in the playback equipment caused by too-high volume settings or unnecessary bass boosting.

Well it is there - as you can see 7 posts above - but it's hardly noticeable in some surroundings and to some ears ...

It's not noticeable at all in the listening tests I've carried out. Various equipment (all high-end), various houses, various listeners. The only way I can make the amps clip is by cranking up the volume to unrealistic levels.

The physical CD album that is being sold in the year 2020 (for example, on Amazon). Does it still have the distortion issue in the first track that the early "limited" edition had? Have they rectified this in subsequent pressings?

I want to secure a physical edition of the score that I have confidence in. Anybody purchase this recently and can provide some info?
