I have however always struggled with the notion that the Anthology is superior sound quality wise to the later 2 cd sets, as I’ve never been able to detect much of a difference.
Really? I find the RCA/Sony Empire and Jedi to sound pretty dire in comparison due to odd remixing and overzealous noise reduction.
Remember when these first came out, Swash, and we were the only two who thought Jedi sounded bad? Remember those days?

Barely. I'm getting old, it seems. I do remember that explaining the issue was difficult, because it wasn't the content that was the problem — I'd be the first to admit that it was as comprehensive as it could be, save for the few omissions — but that all of this music has always sounded so much better before.

I have the chance of getting this release even though I already own the RCA 2cds version that came out in 1997. Should I get this one?

Having the cues freed from their inappropriately-long suites is reason enough, but if you need one more reason, Return Of The Jedi actually sounds good. The 2CD RCA version sounds like it was taken from an acetate from 1945. Get it, man, get it.

I sold mine after I got the two-cd sets, but eventually repurchased it used. For me, it was a combination of the presentation of the main scores on the three CD sets, plus the fourth disc, which is such a good collection of all the extra score they could put out at the time.
Years later I probably only listen to disc 4 from time to time, but I'm glad I have it. And the booklet is great (especially if in good shape), with I recall an intro from Nicholas Meyer. Plus the discs are all with Ralph McQuarrie concept art, so that alone made it a must to regain for me.
That said, if you're happy with the two-cd sets, and you don't have a yen to own this as a neat addition-in-its-own-right to your collection, you may well be right. (I'm not the best judge of sound quality, I made my peace with the two-cd sets long ago.)
