Last we heard about The Last Starfighter from Roger was:

Last Starfighter is scheduled for 10/28...assuming we get the approvals on time!

The film could be aweful considering how old you were when you first saw it. For kids of the 80's and such, it has a lasting positive effect on most. I was the perfect age so I love it. BUT maybe if you were much much older in 1984 you may not like it or found it too kiddie. Likewise if you weren't even alive when it premiered and saw it years later, you may think it's heavily dated.

I'm thankful I was the right age and I love the film and score!

Intrada ROCKS!

Anyone who doesn't like the movie The Last Starfighter is not welcome in my house.

The 39 year old me yawns at the Last Starfighter movie, but the 9 year old is doing cartwheels and jumping jacks.

Both 39 and 9 year olds wait agreeably excited for the expanded score album. Just another example that proves my point that symphonic music transends the ages. I shudder to think at the alternate universe that had this scored with all syth/pop songs

I remember an FSM review of the Intrada CD where the reviewer said he wasn't a fan of the movie. So I guess Lukas Kendall (for it was he) won't be popping 'round your place...

Im a child of the 80s but even i never liked The Last Starfighter. Its not the worst film ever made but good lord it SO cheesy and dated even by 80s standards. The fx are terrible, the villain is laughably bad and the scene where all the old people come out at night to see Alex beat a video game ' HEY EVERYBODY! ALEX IS GONNA BEAT THE RECORD! ' ........yeah right!

But i love the score so i will purchase as soon as the new edition becomes available.

Was this signing called off? It is no longer on their website.

If the CD isn't coming out yet because it is still waiting art approval, it is REALLY hard to hold a signing...

They could have still had the signing, there are plenty of other Safan releases out there that they could have had for the signing.

Not really. These signing events are really promotional events for specific items, and it effectively eats up the resources of the store hosting the event.

It's not feasible for a store to host an event promoting nothing new at the cost of their normal business.

I will add that the event was on my must go calendar, and I expect it'll be rescheduled for later in the month or year, depending on the artwork approval and manufacturing schedule, barring other commitments for Craig Safan (such as a scoring assignment).

Disappointing update from Roger

Did The Last Starfighter make it in one of the batches, or is it still waiting on final approvals?

Nope, it'll probably be out first quarter next year.

Why is this update "sad"? Roger mentioned it a month ago that they were still waiting for approvals, so it's not as we weren't aware of the delay already.

Months and months to approve a cover art that is probably going to look a lot like the promo material the film originally used.

Looks like I'm waiting until next year for this.

Hope Mr. Safan gets the chance to do a signing for it. smile
