While I really like "The Usual Suspects", the score as presented on the old CD is hard to get down. I edited it, re-arranged some stuff, did a little layering, put it in a presentation order, and wa la -- it's something I can listen to regularly if I want.

As you all know, I was one of the first here to present "album/lp" versions of new and old scores. I have also, on occasion, provided new and improved track titles.
Dozens of examples.
They can be found in the threads for the title in question.
Or, you can ask me >

cheers!

Another title I need to add to my ever-growing list of whittles-in-waiting:

Rosenthal's Clash of the Titans

I bought the Intrada based on the marketing copy and the fact that it's an 80's swords & sorcery score performed by the venerable LSO. I'm still trying to make it past track 5.

Ha..slightly similar for me.
I LOVED the original CLASH OF THE TITANS LP and grew used to that sequence/programme.
I remember buying the slightly expanded CD release, but keeping the old programme, as the additional cues never really enhanced that much for me.
I probably picked up the Intrada edition in a sale, buoyed by the remastering, extra-extra music and lovely new packaging. But it's still the old LP programme that I listen to.
Let me know how you get on JTW.

Alien: Covenant mini-album, using only the Jerry material:

The Covenant
Sails
Planet 4 - Main Theme
Wheat Field
Dead Civilization
Survivors
Alien Covenant Theme

Thanks to someone on the "Alien: Covenant by Jerry Goldsmith" thread, which I can't find for the life of me (does this board's search function not work anymore?). I think it may have been The Mutant?

Yeh that was me. I seem to be a lone supporter of the film/score. Dead Civilization and Survivors don’t really feature any of the Goldsmith stuff though, I just like those ones.

I've also 'whittled down' Alfonso de Villalongo's excellent BIANCANIEVES to a good 49 minutes, but my promo has no track names, and a different track number than other releases, so it's kinda difficult to share.

These are the "playlist projects" I have lined up, meaning scores I've decided to keep because I've liked a lot of the music, but where the overlong format completely undermines the effect:

EARTH - ONE AMAZING DAY (Alex Heffes)
COSMOS: A SPACETIME ODYSSEY (Silvestri)
THE SONG OF BERNADETTE (Newman)
HOW THE WEST WAS WON (Newman)
30 DEGRESS IN FEBRUARY (Söderström & Berthling)
A LATE QUARTET (Badalamenti)
NIGHT TRAIN TO LISBON (Focks)
THE TOUCH (Poledouris)
OUTLANDER: SEASON 2 (McCreary)
OLSENBANDEN (Bjerre, box)
FAR CRY IV (Martinez)
THE MAN FROM UNCLE (Pemberton)
AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON (Elfman/Tyler)
FIELD OF LOST SHOES (Wiedmann)
FROZEN PLANET (Fenton)
LA REVOLUTION FRANCAISE (Delerue)
A NIGHTINGALE FALLING (Stewart)
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (Zimmer)
THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 (Zimmer)
BEVERLY HILLS COP 1 + 2 (Faltermeyer)
THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN (Horner)
WILD SALOMÉ (Beal)
THE BLUE MAX (Goldsmith)
RAMBO III (Goldsmith)
BORDERLANDS: THE PRE-SEQUEL (Kyd)
THE GOLDEN CHILD (Colombier)
THE YOUNG MESSIAH (Debney)
LOST RIVER (Jewel) -- already whittled, but needs more whittling. It's at 1h22min now.
MOANA (Mancina)
DOCTOR ZHIVAGO (Jarre)
JOHN CARTER (Giacchinio) -- yes, I DO own a Giacchino score!
QUO VADIS (Rozsa)
BEN HUR (Rozsa)
MORIBITO: GUARDIAN OF THE SPIRIT (Sato)
CINDERELLA (Doyle)
ATLANTIS: THE LAST DAYS OF KAPTARA (Bateman)
LA BELLE ET LA BETE (Adenot)
MAYHEM (Moore)
THE ITALIAN KEY (Kantelinen)
CUBAMERICAN (Carlos José Alvarez)

...so yes, I definitely have the work cut out for me. Let me know if any of you have playlists for any of these.

I also have several promos that I've received without any order, so the tracks turn up in alphabetical order. Very frustrating. Like Tuomas Kantelinen's TERRITORY, for example. Guess one needs to see the film to decipher the film order (if the track titles are named as something meaningful) -- which is better than alphabetical order, but worse than a properly arranged 'listening experience' order.

So I can those types of albums to the 'to do' list as well.

Whittled a great 79 minute CD of Return of the Jedi using the Anthology box set and the 1997 Special Edition 2CD set. Some around here believe the Anthology set has better sound so I used many tracks from that set and incorporated tracks from the Special Edition for the lengthy battle sequences. It makes for a fantastic listen on a single disc. In film order (sorry, Thor!).

  • Main Title - Approaching the Death Star (Anthology disc 3, track 2)
  • Han Solo Returns (Anthology disc 3, track 3)
  • Fight in the Dungeon (Anthology disc 3, track 4)
  • The Return of the Jedi (Anthology disc 3, track 5
  • The Emperor Arrives (Anthology disc 3, track 6)
  • The Death of Yoda (Anthology disc 3, track 7)
  • Alliance Assembly (SE disc 1, track 9)
  • Faking the Code (Anthology disc 4, track 13)
  • The Emperor Confronts Luke (Anthology disc 3, track 10)
  • The Battle of Endor I (SE disc 2, track 5)
  • The Ewok Battle (Anthology disc 4, track 7)
  • The Battle of Endor II (SE disc 2, track 7)
  • The Battle of Endor III (SE disc 2, track 8)
  • Leia's News/Light of the Force (SE disc 2, track 9)
  • Victory Celebration/End Title (SE disc 2, track 10)

Hey, shouldn't this be in your 'whittlers' thread? That thread must never die!

To be honest Shaun, if you HADN'T passed some kind of derogatory comment about the Ottman score, I was goin' home...and takin' me ball with me!
As I finished typin' it, I turned to my missus and said "Just watch Rutherford pass some snarky comment about CELLULAR now". And she said, "WTF you talkin about...who's Rutherford...in fact, who are YOU and what are you doing in my house!!??"

Sounds like you've gotten yourself into some dramatics that could only be scored by John Ottman. You know who NOT to call for help this time, McGann - ME
