Don't be disrespectful please! frown

If John Williams does not want to release SUGARLAND EXPRESS on CD, than they should respect it and should stay away of it.

Get over yourself. At no point did I say that I wanted Williams to die tomorrow. On the contrary, I want him to live a very long and happy life. But once he's done that, we'll have a soundtrack release of "The Sugarland Express", thanks very much.

In any event, as much as Williams might not want the score to be given a soundtrack release, I doubt he has the ultimate say. If the studio which owns the rights to the music wishes to do so, I imagine they're entirely within their rights to release it. Sure, Williams may continue to bleat his protests, but unless he has somehow retained the rights to the score (not entirely outside the realm of possibility, but nonetheless highly unlikely), then he's out of luck.

Sugarland Express is the Williams score I want the least out of the bunch that remain to be released/expanded .I've never really thought about it, but Family Plot was on my wish list for years

Yeah, from what I've heard of it, the score is rather inconsequential. However, it's an unreleased Williams score, so more than a few people will go ga-ga over it if it is ever released.

Makes you think that SUGARLAND EXPRESS may not be an impossibility either.

Hasn't that one been blocked by Williams himself: he actively doesn't want it released?

Has Williams been at all specific about WHY he doesn't want it released? What doesn't he like about it?

Finally!

It feels great to remove this from the grail list.

This is typical, Family Plot is released and immediately the thread goes to the next unreleased title (like Sugerland express). Be happy with what you will get on December 6, look forward to that.

I'm not a Williams completist at all, but this was the only Varese Club title I ordered based on the samples. Sounds really good. It's a bonus that the score was written for a Hitchcock film (although not his best work).

Depends on how much longer Williams lives. According to Roger Fiegelson, Williams has made it clear that he doesn't want the score given a soundtrack release. However, not to be insensitive, once he keels over, there's probably nothing to stop it happening.

Dude you DON'T even wanna mess with this! Hahaha take it from me people will have panic attacks over your perceived "insensitivity". wink

By the way, who of you have seen the film?

I found it silly and lackluster on almost every level, a far cry from Hitch in his prime! But that we got a Williams score out of it, and that he got to work the famous director, is something to be treasured.

So is this shipping now with no delay? Isn't there usually a few weeks before shipping after a VS announcement?

In 1976 there was a sneak preview of the film Slap Shot. It played at 8PM and to insure seats it was ok to enter the theater for the already showing films. Me and the mrs sat through The Sentinel and Family Plot then Slap Shot. Long, Long day. Good, fun Hitchcock. Not a great film. Dern was usually a villain and the roles turned around in this film. Prior to that he was a good guy in Silent Running but had to atone for shooting John Wayne in the back in The Cowboys. Looking forward to this release since that night in 1976.

I don't find it lackluster at all. Loved it for years. It's clever and features delicious performances, particularly William Devane as the baddie. Plus it's loaded with great Hitchcockian photography. Many, many cool shots, aided by this great score. Nope, I'm not one who poops on Family Plot. Love it to death, always will.
