Tyler has written some wonderful orchestral music (some more thematic, and some with more electronics than others). Expendables 1 and 2, Alien vs Predator Requiem, Timeline, Dragonball Evolution, Children of Dune, and Partition to name a few. Tyler is cabable of writing a great super hero movie score, the question has to be did the producers and director allow him to do so. I am curios to find out.
That's the only thing that concerns me. Tyler is more than capable of writing awesome music, but did they let him? I already pre-ordered the score, and I'll post my reactions when I get it.
I'm on board for Tyler. I think his style will suit Iron Man, pun intended. Now I'm just hoping Danny Elfman will be announced for Thor: The Dark World (even though there's zero evidence of this happening - I want Elfman to have a go at a Marvel Cinematic Universe film!).
Here's my dream list at any rate:

Guardians Of The Galaxy (2014) – John Powell
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) – James Horner
X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) – John Ottman

Ant-Man (2015) – David Arnold
Fantastic Four (2015) – Michael Giacchino
That looks like a fantastic list. I think the best chances of one of those happening is Ottman, because Singer is directing and I think I heard something about Ottman mentioning returning to the X-Men Universe. If so, he'd be the first composer to score to X-Men films.

Yeah, it's a high-flying dream list.
Here's what we're more likely to get:
Thor: The Dark World (2013) – Ramin Djawadi
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) – Henry Jackman
Guardians Of The Galaxy (2014) – James Newton Howard (in Green Lantern "mode")
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) – Harry Gregson-Williams (in Origins: Wolverine "mode")
X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) – Henry Jackman
The Avengers 2 (2015) – Henry Jackman
Ant-Man (2015) – No Score, just era-chosen source songs
Fantastic Four (2015) – Theme by Hans Zimmer, Score by Lorne Balfe
It has been suggested that Henry Jackman already has the Captain America 2 gig, which is OK only if he's allowed to work in the style of his animated scores (I guess a better indication will be just how much orchestral freedom Brian Tyler has been given for Iron Man 3).
I too have read that John Ottman has already said he'll be on X-Men: DoFP, which is great news as I always wanted to hear his development of his X2 material. I can see James Horner returning for Spider-Man 2, but I imagine the ball is totally in his court on that one; I remember reading at the time of the original that it was a one-off for him and he had to be convinced then. I can also imagine Silvestri is already signed for Avengers 2, which would be a shame if he didn't keep his toe in the water with Captain America.
As for Giacchino, I'm really hoping his Disney connection gets him a gig on one of these movies - he needs to do another superhero score! I'm also hoping John Powell's return from his hiatus this year will have him hungry to do something different and Guardians of the Galaxy would be right up his alley (since it is going to be largely animated anyway!).
Anywho, just some thoughts from me.

Well, Djawadi seems to be turning out better work in Game of Thrones Season 2. Jackman has written some great scores, but most folks don't seem to enjoy GI Joe Retaliation (which I haven't heard yet). JNH and HGW are both composers who can do great, but once again, it comes down to the feel the director wants. I think it was great getting Doyle and Silvestri in Phase 1, and if either of them return then I'll be pretty happy. What I really would like (but this is my dreaming here) is that the Marvel Cinematic Universe gets some awesome themes written for its characters by top-notch composers, which are then incorporated into other films by either the same composer or another composer adapting the themes. (For instance, Jackman BETTER keep Silvestri's Captain America theme!) A great theme becomes a part of a character, adapting and changing with the person as he/she goes through trials, and emerging stronger for it. OK, I'm done dreaming.

The Amazing Spider-Man was so bad I gave my cd away.
Couldn't disagree more! The emotion that Horner added to the Amazing Spider-Man made the film work for me! Fantastic melodic super-hero score.
Looking forward to hearing Iron Man 3, I didn't like Djawadi's original (too many guitars and drums) and Debney's effort was too bombastic at times (although I did enjoy the nod to Jerry's Total Recall score). I hope Tyler can find some melody again (such as Timeline) rather than just going on auto-pilot with the percussion (such as Fast 5!)
The fact that he mentioned the score to be orchestral and thematic means that he did.

When Marvel & Shane Black approached me about scoring Iron Man 3, I was thrilled as a long-time fan of the series and super hero films in general. We all wanted this score to have a deeply thematic component with a strong melody. We felt that the story would lend itself best to go classic and use the orchestra as the main voice of the music, with horns & trumpets singing the new Iron Man theme in a strong way. I conducted the London Philharmonic at Abbey Road in order to give the score a sound that felt powerful enough to live up to its name. Shane Black was very supportive & collaborative in his vision for the film & the score, and Kevin Feige was also a kindred spirit in really reaching for something special. Both of them are incredible film score buffs, and we all spoke the same film music language, which made for an awesome experience. In the end we went for a score that echoed the classics of super hero film history with a few surprises like a wild 1960s style main title piece that was an absolute blast to record.
