Love the bit when he's getting a whiff of Marion's hair and acting the scoundrel.
Katanga should have had a Kenner action figure, too. Instead, Lando had to pull double duty when my childhood friends and I played our action figure "epics", circa 1981, and Lando was way too posh in his fashion choices, whereas Katanga was full on seafaring cool.
As for how Indy rode the U-Boat - I'm sure it's been answered, but I didn't see it in this thread - I've always assumed the sub stayed on the surface so the batteries could be charged. I think that was fairly routine in that day.
And the crew cheering - I wonder if Indy was thinking, "Thanks, guys, but PLEASE, don't point!!!"
Why wasn't Henry Jones Jr. (aka Indiana Jones) arrested for statutory rape after he deflowered an underage Marion Ravenwood?
Marion - "I was a child! I was in love! It was wrong and you knew it!"
Sorry. I'll open a new thread about this subject.
Oh great, this is going to come back to bite us if Disney and the WOKES gets a wif of this. They'll probably permanently vault the film for being culturally inappropriate.
Good one, Jim, thanks! Anyone interested in me doing some lyrics to the tune of Indy's Theme?:
"Indiana is my name, And my exploits Are my claim to fame! Stupid Nazis, don't give me no lip Cause I'll trick 'em, and flick 'em and And give 'em the Whip!"
I watched Raiders of the Lost Ark last night, and was going to crap out a quick review for the movie topic. However, Raiders is too ingrained in my memory--think one man's inferior nostalgia--dating back to childhood and in the very best way for me to critique it. I did note that today's kids might think it too slowly paced, at least in terms of its lack of jump cuts and the like.
It still gets a 10/10 from me (British forbearance to the Nazis digging in Egypt notwithstanding).
In the "making of..." featurettes, much is made about the Cairo television aerials having to be taken down: Why didn't they just shoot that scene at night? Most of it is just Indy and Sallah discussing the headpiece. It seems like El Spielbergo sacrificed expediency for a momentary shot of the Cairo cityscape. Spielberg is such an indulgent filmmaker!
Selleck was a "hot" actor who tended to overdo things: he'd shout, he'd shriek, and he'd scream, often during a comedic scene. Take a look at some of the Magnum episodes and especially The High Road to China for what I think a Selleck Indy would have been like.
Harrison's low-key, marijuana-smoking personality was ideal for Jones, and we are all fortunate he got the role...
...and I say this as a life-long Tom Selleck fan and also a critical Harrison Ford fan.
In recent years, Selleck has imo gone too far the other way, abandoning his considerable comic ability and becoming too stoic.
In those Behind the Scenes features, Ford seems like an "everyman" who would pal around with even the lowliest crewperson. Is that just image management or is Harrison really an approachable guy who's cool to everyone? He has a great sense of humor and doesn't appear to take things too seriously, as his Star Wars interviews reveal.
Selleck took a page from the James Garner book of how to run a set, and by every account I've read, is great to everyone.

Any of the Harrison Ford experts here know the answer?
This is very interesting! I'm not sure it was really thought out by the writers but it all does kinda come together. Maybe it was just a happy accident!
