Hey Jim, take that Terry Henry fella out of the thread title and call it something like LET'S TALK FOOTY and you might (hopefully) get lots more hits!
I certainly enjoy reading the posts in this one! smile

I hate to cater to English prejudices...but for the sake of decent conversation, alright.

If I don't see more posts, back to Thierry Henry it goes!

Thanks for changing the thread title. I thought this was only about Thierry Henry. I'm game for some proper football discussion.

This looks to be a year of change, as Barca, Man UTD*, AC Milan, and Bayern Munich all fail to win their respective leagues after doing so last season. Instead, they'll all finish as runners up.

*Almost a certainty

Cheers Jim.
I've got nothing against TH myself, but I know he rubs others up the wrong way.
Hopefully the new thread title will attract fans from all over.
I know there are plenty of other footie fans other than us English posters, hopefully they will chime in with how their teams did this season.
I know the French title is nearing a tense finish, with little Montpelier trying to hold off big money PSG with two games to go.
And who'd have thunk an Americano would be the author of this SOCCER LOVING thread! wink

lol.

I don't believe City did it - 2 goals in injury time.

I could never feel sorry for red nose and MU.

Now it's time for Chelsea to assault the Germans.smile

Unbelievable, Jeff!

Maximum chagrin for Fergie = a great season, secomd only to Leeds doing something (which we didn't).

I saw our manager last week driving through Wetherby in his Aston. He should flog it and get us a decent centreback...

Nice one City! It would have been nice to see Bolton stay up, but it wasn't to be.

Jim - thanks for changing the thread title - now you just need to delete the text and the picture of the French basketball player... smile

Congrats to City! What a finale!

My team Spurs started off the season pretty well, but then faltered somewhat. At least it was better than previous seasons, where they always seemed to come in at the middle of the table. 4th place and Champion's League possibilities is a good result, all in all.

Thor - how did I know you would be a tottenham fan!! ha ha.

I dont know why all the City fans were getting so upset with 20 minutes to go - crying, hitting chairs, walking out early - because had they not won it yesterday they will definitely win it next year anyway. As much as non-United fans hate United, what this title win for City means is because they have an obscene level of money now - despite new rules coming into force - it is the beginning of a long and monotonous dynasty and world domination. In the summer, when they go out and cherry pick even more world class players from other top teams, next season they will be even more unstoppable, partly because the other rivals are all in transition and not much good at the moment either, including United. So pardon me if Im not jumping up and down at the thought of a predictable Premier League next year and beyond where the only places up for grabs of any interest will be second and third.

It happened before with the money and size of Liverpool in the 80s and with United since the 90s and it spoils it all when there isnt proper competition.

Pleased for City fans who have waited so long for glory but the significance of the win looks bleak for a predictable future.

The last thing the Premier League needs is to be like La Liga, the dullest two-horse race going.

All good points, but (a) as long as my team isn't on the Premier League, I don't really care, and (b) the fans of every other team would swap their finances for City's any day of the week.

And Joey Barton - what a berk.

I'd give that accolade to Scotland, frankly.

And La Liga has plenty of teams who'd hold their own in the Premier League - Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, Athletic Bilbao to name but a few. Compare them with Wigan, Stoke, Swansea and QPR...

Yeah, but outside of an excellent goal-less match of Barca and Sevilla, most of those other teams collapse like a Leeds United house of ca--wait, what was the name of your team again? wink

Watch "Greatest player on God's Earth" Messi get stonewalled on his pathetic penalty try. (12:50)

Anyway, never mind the Premier League, Saturday's big game looms....

Currently watching: The Professionals with Marvin and Lancaster on Channel 4. Love it.

I've already forgotten it. The football season is a long, but the off season short. Heck, American Football has an eight-month hiatus!

Currently watching: The Professionals with Marvin and Lancaster on Channel 4. Love it.

Aka, "The Wild Bunch Rehearsals."

Yes, for sure. Lots of lovely practice runs ... from the Lee Marvin's army campaign hat to the shotguns to scenes about giving your word...
"My word to Grant aint worth a busted nickle"
"But you gave your word to me."

Close season even shorter this summer ...euro 2012 starts on June 8th.
