...people in the audience for a stand-up routine are laughing WAY too hard at jokes that are a polite chuckle at best?
That is what happens in real life too. So very often I hear an audience laugh or I hear people comment on someone being a comic genius and my reaction is: "must be that I'm not a US citizen". Why is SNL on? Why has Snoopy survived for more than half a century( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pej0iBH3x7A )? Why is Garfield a success? Why do people consider George Carlin a genius? Why do they consider David Letterman so great and who in hell gave Jimmy Fallon his current job?! No real life really IS what you describe.

Comedy stand-up is the new rock & roll in the UK, everyone seems to be doing it, & stuff that would get you a few minutes of embarrassing silence between friends has people falling off their seats at venues. I dunno, maybe they've paid their money & are damn well going to laugh...or I've turned into a miserable old bugger.
Do you have anything to back up this (puzzlingly) contrary opinion?
Do you have anything to back up yours? Honestly not meant as a cop out but I am not going to derail this fun thread with a subthread about a man who isn't worth it.

D.S.
In all fairness, you're the one who drew first blood, but if you want proof...
...a main character is pouring their heart out and proposing marriage...only to find that it's a rehearsal to a tertiary character.
...a regular main character is surrounded by idiots who are stupid/stubborn just to move the flippin' plot. ORANGE COUNTY, EXTRACT and several "King of the Hill" episodes are especially excruciating in this regard.
Of course, once you get into rifles and bigger charges (like BMG .50, or even "small" stuff like 5.56x45), very few things will shield you. Except things like car engine blocks. If someone flies with an A-10, be somewhere else.
there are two characters, they argue or disagree, one storms off and the second person seemingly intent on continuing the conversation walks after them for a bit, then just stops when they hit their mark but continues shouting after them.
Or obviously unpaid for speaking actors who just shrug or mug when asked a question by a main character. when in real life they'd anyone human would just reply.
People getting their throats cut die immediately. I'm just watching game of thrones season 3 and 2 people just die instantly after getting sliced across the throat.
Blatantly ignoring basic science. I just watched "The Space Between Us", and ironically with a title like that, there was no time delay between Earth/Mars communication.
