West ham. Beat Arsenal 1-0.

Havent a clue if thats the right answer but it felt damned good typing it.

Love the algarve.

good to see you back. Did you get as far as Lagos?

Im away for a week myself - just UK - may be able to post by phone so expect short sharp rudeness or quick witty one liners!!

We stayed in Carvoeiro, which as you'll know is just on the other side of Portimao to Lagos, which is my favourite Algarvian town. We spent a day in Lagos as I hadn't been in nearly 30 years and wanted to show it off to the family. It's still pretty unspoilt, although there is a football bar bang in the middle (near the controversial Don Sebastiao statue) which made my heart sink a little.

The quiz answer isn't really correct, so I'll let it run for another day or so. I also remember WHU beating Fulham 2-0 in the 70s. A bit of a purple patch for you 'ammers.

Trevors header against Arsenal! Happy days. Thanks thomas even if not correct answer. Great shame he didnt play more for England.

And in 75 we saw off fulhams dads army. Hated seeing Bobby suffer though.

Close enough - Alan Sunderland scored the winning FA Cup goal in 1979, Ricky Villa in 1981 - so the answer is indeed Trevor Brooking.

Happy days, eh?

Just a heads up that the Women's Euro's starts this Wednesday on BBC3 in the UK.
The opening game is Sweden vs Denmark !!
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm HUGELY excited at the prospect of that game...for footballing reasons of course wink
England play their first game Friday night if you've recovered from the above game by then!

Anyone following the Championship next season? I'm hoping Sheffield Wednesday can at least avoid a relegation fight.

ALso, the CONCACAF Gold Cup (North/Central America's regional tournament akin to the Euros) started yesterday with two massive upsets - Mexico lost 2-1 to Panama, and Canada lost 1-0 to little Martinique, a tiny Caribbean island that isn't even a full member of FIFA.

USA plays tomorrow against Belize, with Costa Rica and Cuba the other teams in the group. I wonder if any Cubans will defect (as they usually do)?

A few current and ex-Prem players are in the various squads: ex-West Ham striker Frédéric Piquionne and current Notts County forward Yoann Arquin for Martinique, Stoke striker Kenwyne Jones and ex-Sunderland and Wolves midfielder Carlos Edwards for Trinidad, and several old boys on the USA squad including Oguchi Onyewu (Newcastle), Landon Donovan (Everton), Stuart Holden (Bolton), Brek Shea (Stoke).

A few others are dotted around the English lower leagues too - David Edgar (Burnley), Marcus Haber (Stevenage) and Simeon Jackson (Norwich) for Canada; Chris Birchall (Port Vale), Andre Boucaud (Notts County) and Justin Hoyte (Middlesbrough) for Trinidad

Only weeks to go and i found this thread languishing beyond page 3 of the forum and drifting in the outer stratosphere of the search engine!

I'm enjoying the break from it at the mo.
All the Sky transfer BS gets on my nerves (Rooney this, Suarez that, Bale there) and England's ladies have been just as good as their male counterparts wink
Plus, it's been too hot to even think about footy lately!

I don't even discuss The Beautiful Game with my like-minded colleagues at work. I've announced that I'm on a sport sabbatical until August 17---when the "Premiership" wink begins its season.

Hi guyssmile

I'm no lover of Barcelona, but I think it's sad news that Vilanova has to step down as manager due to his illness.

Looks like Big Sam will get his chance now, eh Bill? I hear there is a swap deal involving Iniesta and Messi for Nolan and Carrollwink

Nah, we wouldnt want em, thomas, lionels on the way down now and doesnt win enuf headers!!!

I know wot kev means about the heat and the endless sky sports bullshit and the media stories linking players.

Look at fabregas. Linked with arsenal, went on record saying he wanted to stay at barca.
A week later linked with man utd, then has to go on record saying hes staying at barca.

There is a saying never pay any attention to the rumour spec until theyre holding up a scarf and wearing team strip at the press conference unveiling!!

I mentioned the Women's Tournament above when it was all about to kick-off, but didn't get much response.
I've watched a few games. It's been a mix of slow-paced drama and light comedy! smile

Is this a prediction for next years world cup, Kev??

Not to be out done by the gooners, West Ham have offered Liverpool £40m and two quid for Suarez!!!

There's a real step forward for Suarez, Liverpool to Arsenal. In another three moves he could be playing for a championship winning side!!! ha ha. Better off staying where he is.

Whatever happens, he has clearly bitten off more than he can chew...
