Alternatively, couldn't we also offer to send MV copies of scores he lost in the fire? I did that a page or two back with a title.

I'm worried -- will this mean the end of La La Land Records? A family to feed and house, every single possession lost, is it even financially possible to keep the label in business now?

Why? It wasn't affected by the fire. The business rolls on. I know people want to donate CD's and money, but the best way to keep LLL in business and help MV (IMHO) is to buy their CD's and keep his livelihood healthy and profitable. I'm planning on donating money too, but funds are short this time of year for obvious reasons.

Let's all keep bumping this and share to any composers, musicians, etc that we know:

Unknown, but the latter one (the one Blake Neely set up) is the officially sanctioned one

I will note that while I don't know the whole story behind this comment, anybody who donated to Jason's posted fundraiser should know that he wouldn't fleece MV or you.

There are three separate GoFundMe pages devoted to the cause in one way or another.

The one started by Jason LeBlanc to directly benefit the Gerhards: https://www.gofundme.com/GerhardFire

Jason will collect donations and send to MV and his wife (or however that works).

The one started by composer Blake Neely to directly benefit the Gerhards:
https://www.gofundme.com/mv-and-family

See above.

The one started by Michael's wife, Deion, for the benefit of their son and daughter-in-law, who also lost everything in the fire but didn't have insurance: https://www.gofundme.com/4taikpk

When she posted this on Facebook she said that a good way to help them would be to help their kids (via donations to this link).

Donations to any or all of these pages will help, I'm sure.

Michael Giacchino RTed this on Twitter today, so hopefully that helps!

Lots of film score composers and bigwigs have also contributed.

Thanks to all the people who set up those funding campaigns.

When if not now is the time to step up and help a fellow from our little soundtrack community...

I am so very sorry for your loss MV but am relieved to hear your family is safe. We lost our home in 2004 to a lightning strike and it was devastating but everyone survived. However, it was an isolated loss within the neighborhood and cannot compare to the terrible situation you and your neighbors are going through.

I wish you all well at this time and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers

Hi Mike S - good thing you added "incl. DONATION links!" to the thread title (and starting this thread in the first place for that matter).

Another suggestion: Maybe you can add the links to the donation campaigns to your opening post?

I am so so sorry to hear. I saw the post on FB as well. I really hope MV is able to bounce back from this. Without MV's efforts, the soundtrack community would not be where it's at today.

Is it financially possible not to? That label is his livelihood. It's not a hedge fund, sure, but he and his partner built that business very impressively over fifteen years. How could he give up his means of income?

That said, I have to imagine Matt Verboys will be pulling a lot of the workload for the immediate future.

Thank you all for your love and support. Once these damn fires stop my family and I will begin our next adventure. I can't tell you how touched we are by the outreach of our film score family. Hugs all around.

As for the business, the show must go on! We will still be open until next Monday, Dec 18 -- so get your orders in NOW! We will still be taking orders for the rest of the year and will begin shipping again in the new year starting on Jan 4!

I closed my Go Fund Me so as to not compete with Blake's. All the money I raised will be sent to the Gerhards as soon as GFM sends it to me. My wife and I are adding a donation on top that will also cover all the processing fees GFM charged, so every penny everyone donated to mine is going right to the Gerhards. Thanks to everyone who contributed!

So Sorry about the tragic loss. I am grateful that you and your family are well, though. With good friends, you can rebuild.

I know it's frowned upon in the US to inquire about the lives of people one is not personally familiar with (it always seems to be considered nosey-ness, instead of simply asking about someone's wellbeing)...

...but how's the present situation? Is there anything that could be still be done to help MV and family?

We are doing well. The outpour from family, friends and our extended film score family was truly incredible. While everyone sings the praises of the first responders I have to give a shout out to the insurance companies, especially ours. When they say you are in good hands with them, they mean it!

The debris has been removed from the property (a few things like fences still remain) and now we start the fun part of doing soil tests, blue prints, permits and eventually rebuilding. Currently we are trying to figure out how to accommodate the proper turn around area for a firetruck within the blue print plans. A step I find ironic since the fire dept didn't even bother coming up to the house in the first place! Lol

Hopefully by this time next year we'll be moved in or close to it. In the meantime, life goes on, soundtracks need to be released and wishes granted. Being a full time film score genie can be exhausting at times. wink

Christian, I think it was very kind of you to inquire and obviously MV was happy to share an update.

MV, we were in that situation back in 2004. Again, it wasn't the scale of damage you suffered by any means, but the house imploded with the lightning strike and was blown off the foundation. In order to rebuild, we had to take down almost every tree just to get the equipment in to take the house down. The myriad of pre-work was daunting and it took us a year to get into the house. I will agree with you 100% that the insurance company was absolutely amazing along with the first responders, family, friends, neighbors and even strangers.

MV, I wish you the very best in rebuilding!
