love this website, but the overwhelming negativity can be dizzying at times. from the venom most composers get you'd think they did something personal to certain members of this forum. maybe Djawadi forgot to wish them a happy birthday or something 
It's nothing personal with me. It's about the music being good. The whole point of this board is to discuss the music. If it's good, we talk about it. If it's bad, we talk about it.
The first clips of Pacific Rim are pretty much exactly how I thought they'd sound, which is a bummer.

I like the samples! Yes it's guitar and orchestra but one can clearly hear the, divided instead of them combined in one amorphous sound. Also I hear some melodic stuff that reminds me of Hancock a bit.
People complaint about this are the same people who laud Brian Tyler for the same groove based composing (which I also like a lot!)
Come on guys, not every score has to be all orchestral.
Shit, I sound like Thor now!

For the record, I'm one of three people who thought The Social Network was a really effective score, so it's not like it has to be orchestral for me to enjoy it. I'm all for a well-done electronic score. It's just that Pacific Rim brings nothing new to the table at all, and is just another "Yes, Sir!" soundalike.

Work in Hollywood for a few years and get back to me on that bringing something new to the table bit. Movies are big business and producers want them to make profits. Like it or not RC delivers what studios think your average film goer wants.
If you want innovation or just really competent orchestral composing, look to Stravinsky, Bartok, Prokofiev and a whole other bunch of dead guys since no one writing today either has the skills to write at their level or is allowed to write that kind of music. Anyone who thinks otherwise is naive.
Edit- I just listened through the clips (for some reason I cannot view the album just the song on iTunes) and there is one track that has a Russian choir on it with lots of atypical chord progressions and barely any synths. Did you guys even buy the whole CD and listen through?

So far I'm loving this score! You guys hated Iron Man, Clash of the Titans, and Red Dawn, so I'm guessing you'll hate this one too... while I enjoy it 
The clips are sounding good to me. I will pick this one up when iTunes Canada sorts out their shit and makes the whole cd available rather than individual songs.

Come on! Surely there's got to be some love for this from Godzilla fans ( the real one not 'GINO'!) I'm just about peeing my pants to see this film! Holding off on the iTunes download for the CD.
I'm totally psyched for this movie, more so than MOS. yes, it appeals to the thirteen year old in me but what's the matter with that?
One thing it looks like they nailed that Michael Bay never was able to was the motion of large beings. They shouldn't move as fast as smaller beings especially when you see them from a distance which basically means all of the cameras. Just like a plan doesn't seem to b flying quickly who one views it from the ground, the robots and monsters should appear to us to be moving in slow motion which they appear to be doing in the trailer footage. Transformers had robots moving way too fast to be realistic in terms of the laws of physics. So yeah, I stoked to see this bad boy.
