Bruce, I am unhappy with SAE's new shipping method. They dropped USPS in favor of a hybrid called UPS Mail Innovations. What used to take 3 days from SAE to my hands in San Francisco now takes over a week. I want to order Kritzerland CD's directly from you. What mail service do you use ? Can I pay by credit card ? Please reply.

Yes, I'm also in San Francisco and SAE's shipping time has doubled recently. Very, very unsatisfactory, especially at their high shipping rates. They also appear to have stopped providing the bubble inner-sleeves that used to offer additional protection against cracked cases. You'd think in an age of download competition, they'd be keen to IMPROVE their shipping times rather than double them.
I already order all Kritzerland CDs directly from the label and shipping is quicker, better packaged and cheaper too. Same with Intrada.

Basil, does Kritzerland accept credit cards ? I prefer that method of payment rather than paypal.

Hmm... there used to be a credit card link (if I recall correctly), but I don't see it now.

We've always only done paypal, but here's the thing about paypal - you don't have to be signed up with them to use it - it's really like using your cc anywhere on line. No signing in, no nothing. It's easy. But we can also accept checks and money orders if that's easier. I've heard about this shipping change at SAE but don't really know or understand what it is. We ship USPS and things usually arrive fast and we do tracking on every package.

Possé and The Last Tycoon made a short appearance, also Island At The Top Of The World sold out quite quickly. Phooof!

US based customers can complain about postage, but you guys have it as good as it gets.

I got to ask, but what about the rejected score Johnny Mandel is supposed to have done, for "The Only Game In Town"? And North's unknown contribution (first composer on; an old article from the '70's says, probably inaccurately, his music was not used, too)?

Off-topic, of course, but I need to say that I don't understand this kind of complaint - "I need to wait 4 days more! OMG, my life is over!"
But non-US customers sometimes need to wait MUCH longer. Additional 4 days of waiting seems very little to me - once I was waiting for my package for 2 months (and this was not replacement for lost package - original package arrived only after 2 months)!!!
Also, it's much pleasent to open package after little anxious waiting big grin

I'm from Europe, and I had to give up ordering from SAE a year or so ago (package for a 100$+ order got lost in spite of quite high shipping fee, and all that SAE had to propose after I inquired was to select a more secure - always more expensive - shipping option next time and-thank-you-for-ordering-from-SAE - talk about adding insult to injury).

So, yes the situation is worse for non-US customers, but that's no reason for US customers to not complain, and IMO your "oh poor spoiled kids" irony is not necessary : it seems that SAE shipping policy is getting worse and there's nothing to rejoice about.

Yes, but I don't live overseas. The old system delivered it to me in 3days. Service changes should bring improvement not make things worse. It's OK however. I will use the SAE website to see what's coming, but I will purchase from a more reliable shipper.

Back to Bregman's Delicate Delinquent for a moment...

What is the origin of the jazzy big-band theme in Main Title/Prelude? Surely it's an adaptation of an existing piece?

It is not, at least according to the cue sheets - it is Bregman, and it's Bregman kind of really prefiguring the Leonard Bernstein sound of West Side Story, which would debut the following year.

No info on Mandel score - I'm sure if it were there they would have included it as a bonus on the Blu-ray just for interest's sake. Maybe he was signed but didn't actually do the job or maybe he did and the tapes don't exist. Who knows?

The singer of Desdemona's Lament in Visit to a Small Planet was Barbara Lawson.

While i find the "wuuu-wuuu" stuff on VISIT TO A SMALL PLANET kind of an irritating listening experience i must chime in and praise THE DELICATE DELINQUENT, a terrific score by Buddy Bregman -- a composer i had never heard of till now -- which is a real thrill! Its overture is already one of the most addictive track i have listened so far and the rest of the score features very nice, varied and well-crafted sensitive moods. As written by Bruce : "an undiscovered gem".
Many thanks for having digged it up. smile

TO ANABEL- BUDDY BREGMAN was a very prolific TV producer of TV specials and TV movies from the 60's till the turn of the century. He also was a director, writer, conductor, and arranger. He composed for about a dozen films from 1955 till 1961. He was born on JULY 9TH , 1930 in Chicago Illinois. He is currently retired at the age of 84.I agree that score was a good one.

He also did a ncie score a year earlier from TDD, based on a clips, for a film called "The Wild Party". Unreleased (though a track was re-recorded for a jazz album).
